Perry High School recently honored 13 students at the annual Military Enlistment Ceremony, where they were supported by their families, friends, recruiters, administration, and CUSD governing board members. These students represent the Perry ideals of “Pride, Progress and Purpose”, and will be leaving for military service upon graduation. Honored students included: Joanna Florian-US Army/Combat Medic, Frank Sessions- US Army Reserves/Paralegal, Chance Bruce-US Marines/Infantry, Tyler Dickson-US Marines/Motor Transport, Remington Henrichsen-US Marines/Motor Transport, Olivia Padia-US Marines/Supply & Logistics, Felipe Saavedra-US Marines/Infantry, Lane Engle- US Navy/Nuclear Power Program, Kevin Howey-US Navy/Nuclear Power Program, Christopher Cochran-US Air Force/Tactical Air Maintenance, Jeremy Edwards- US Air Force/Tactical Air Maintenance, Damon Scott- US Air Force/Tactical Air Maintenance and Michael Trow- US Air Force/Airbourne Linguist. Further, once these students complete their basic training, they are invited to have their photo enshrined in Perry’s “Hall of Service” in recognition of their selfless and honorable decision to serve.

CUSD would like to thank all of the students and families who turned out for our first-ever All-CUSD elementary track meet Monday night at Chandler High’s Austin Field. Based on the feedback, I think it’s safe to say this will become an annual event. #PublicSchoolsWork
Tonight is the CUSD Inaugural Elementary track meet at Chandler High, 350 N. Arizona Ave, at 5:30 p.m.
Boys and girls in grades 5-6 will compete. Spectators are free, and concessions will be available. Come show your support for the CUSD elementary students.
The Chandler Chamber of Commerce at a school-wide assembly on Thursday surprised Roy Mesquita by announcing he is the CUSD Support Staff of the Year. Roy works security at Arizona College Prep Erie, where is he a team player and is always willing to do whatever it takes to help the students and staff. He is a wonderful role model to his peers and the students due to his positive attitude and always giving 100%.
The Governing Board recognized state and national champions at the District Night of Special Recognition at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Santan Junior High’s jazz band provided entertainment and Willis Junior High choral students say the National Anthem.
Basha High School Agriculture teacher Sharon Metzger was recognized at the Association for Career and Technical Education Region 5 conference in South Dakota as ACTE Regional Teacher of the Year. She was previously recognized as the Arizona State CTE Teacher of the Year. She will be in the running for National Teacher of the Year this December in Nashville.
The Basha High music department has been awarded the "Support Music Merit Award" from the National Association for Music Merchant (NAMM) Best Communities for Music Education program. This award distinguishes the Basha High program as being in the top one percent in the nation.
Basha Elementary staff supported the fight against Epilepsy by completing a 5K over break to honor of Michael Bailey, son of teacher Katie Bailey. Staff reaised nearly $3,000.
On Wednesday, the Governing Board voted to name the Career and Technical Education lecture hall in honor of former Chandler High principal Terry Williams.
