THE FLIGHT DECK
Student Council Induction
Congratulations Student government! The Student Council of 2016-2017 was officially inducted on Monday. This group of America’s future leaders will spend the school year giving back to the community with all of our up-coming service projects. In addition, they will be working with PTO to raise money to make our school soar into excellence.
All Aboard the Energy Bus!
The teachers and staff read The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon and we've taken on the theme of “Ride the Energy Bus” this year. Mrs. Beck, our school counselor, is making her way through classrooms throughout the first quarter sharing The Energy Bus for Kids. The book is about staying positive and overcoming challenges by following five simple rules:
Rule #1---Create a Positive Vision
Rule #2---Fuel Your Ride with Positive Energy
Rule #3---No Bullies Allowed
Rule #4---Love Your Passengers
Rule #5---Enjoy the Ride
By the end of the quarter, all of our students will have been introduced to these rules and on their way to driving their own bus with a positive attitude!
For more information go to www.theenergybus.com (adult version of the book) or www.energybuskids.com (student version of the book).
Sign Up for Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner! Your teacher will email you a link to Sign-Up Genius today where you can sign-up for a specific day and time. The conferences are Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1. The conferences are the perfect opporunity to ask specific questions about your student, hear how your student is doing academically and socially, and just generally connect with your studen’ts teacher.
And remember, conferences mean early dismissal at 11:30 for all students, so please plan accordingly!
What are Thinking Maps?
Thinking Maps are a language of eight visual patterns each based on a fundatmental thinking process. These patterns are used individually and in combination across every grade level and curriculum area as an integrated set of tools for life-long learning! The maps are the Circle Map, Bubble Map, Double Bubble Map, Tree Map, Brace Map, Flow Map, Multi-Flow Map and Bridge Map.
Stay tuned for a weekly showcase of each map and examples of them being used in the classroom right here at Jacobson!
