The Force Was With Him!
Jets Principal, Mrs. Wolf, drew the lucky raffle ticket during Lunch on the Lawn today. The winner of the iPad mini 4 was Patrick Qualls in Mrs. Graves class. He said, “I never win anything!” Thanks to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket in support of the PTO. $875.00 was raised!
Bond Funding at Work—Thank You Parents!
We are blessed to be part of CUSD. Approximately 10 months ago, our voters approved a large bond. Our governing board recently approved the purchase of 4 COWS with 30 HP Streams each for all elementary sites. We have a great board that values continuous improvement. And, part of that continuous improvement process is implementing tech-nology initiatives with balance. The HP Streams are going to be imaged off-site and will come prepared for online testing for AzMERIT in the Spring of 2017.
We’re super excited, because with the two additional COWS provided by the Jets PTO, this means we will have a COW with 30 laptops PER GRADE LEVEL!!! Thank you to every-one who supported the Bond.
Going, going, going...
We’ve accumulated quite a collection of lost lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. in the lunchroom. We will donate or toss the items over Fall Break, so please come and see if any of the items are yours. The week of September 26th is the last chance!
They’re small. They’re still pink. And, they’re back! It’s the Box Tops for Education drive at Jacobson, and they’re worth 10 cents a label! Look for the pink labels on soup cans, cereal, ziplock bags, box mixes, Lysol, etc. Clip them and turn them into the Box Tops for Education bin in the school work room. These funds go toward all of the things our FABULOUS PTO does for our school. For even more opportunities to support the PTO, get your Box Tops items from Sam’s Club. They will provide an additional Box Tops credit for all of those purchased! Here’s what you do:
1. BUY 3 or more Box Tops for Education items in one transaction at Sam's Club® be-fore 11/16/16.
2. SNAP a picture of the receipt showing date, UPC codes, and total purchase amount. Send the picture to email@example.com by 11/30/16.
3. ENTER YOUR CODE. Go to the website below to enter your code by 12/16/16. They'll award our school the eBoxTops you've earned.
Bringing in the Paper with the PTO and Costco
Thanks to all of our parents who shopped at Costco’s annual paper drive for schools. Jacobson earned 34 reams of paper—which is possibly our school’s hottest commod-ity. Copy paper is used every day, in every classroom for worksheets, practice exer-cises, art, flyers, reading logs and anything else our teachers can come up with to creatively educate the next generation. Thanks again, for your support!
Mapping the Way with Double Bubble
The Double Bubble Map is used to compare and contrast any two things or ideas. The larger circles in the middle are the 2 items being compared. The middle bubbles are for words or phrases that show simi-larities, while the outside bubbles(left and right) are for words or phrases that identify the differ-ences. When comparing the differ-ences, you look for related contrasts(trying to avoid using not/no), with on occasion having a unique charac-teristic, that does not have a con-trasting idea. You can compare things, ideas, cultures, people, con-cepts and really anything using this map!
Our Students are Taking Off with Space Explorers
And the countdown to launch has begun! We had over 40 parent volunteers in this week as the Space Explorers program got underway for grades 1-6 during the student lunch/recess period. We even hosted several engineers from Orbital to teach hands-on science. It was fun to see so many community members not only engage with students in the classroom but leave with smiles on their faces. For questions about the Space Explorers program, please email Kristin Thurmond at firstname.lastname@example.org. Below are just a few of the Space Explorers volunteers.
It is important for all parents to have an account. All office communication and student grades will be communicated this way. Please click on the link below to get set up!
