Get Your Greek On!
“I am Zeus, the God of Thunder. My father, Cronos, used to eat my baby brothers and sisters after they were born, but my mother gave him a rock instead of me, so I survived…” And so it went with our 6th grade Jets. They capped off a unit on Greek and Ro-man mythology by becoming a specific character for a day.
Each student wrote, memorized and narrated biographical information about the god or goddess they were assigned. They also dressed in character and each had a prop, such as a trident, a thunder bolt, etc. Each narration began when the prop was touched. We had loads of parents and family come to see! In fact, one parent was overheard to say, “This is such a great school.
Tis the Season for Receipts
Don't throw those receipts away! All Chandler Mall and surrounding stores receipts (all of these stores are included: http://www.shopchandlerfashioncenter.com/Directory) will be counted as DOUBLE at the beginning of 2017. Have a wonderful holiday break and be sure to submit your shopping receipts (at front office of Jacobson) no later than Friday, January 13th!!
Brace Maps in the Classroom
Mrs. Kirchner’s class learned how to use a Brace Map! After making one together as a class, the students got to choose their own topic of interest.
By learning to make a Brace Map, and making it more personal, lots of learning took place!
We had Brace Maps showing whole to part relationships through: making cupcakes, layers of the earth, horseback riding sup-plies and lots more!
Jets Students Demonstrate Caring for Others
Thank you to all our CATS classes! Students and families donated to the Hartford Toy Drive again this year. We ended up with a total of 120 toys for a school in our district who needs our help. Jacobson staff will now drop the toys by Hartford this week to ensure all students receive a holiday gift. We feel very fortunate to work with such a caring and compassionate group of teachers, students and families.
Meanwhile, Mrs. E’s Bees took a walking field trip to the Gardens at Ocotillo senior care center across the street. They spent the morning visiting with folks, play-ing games and making drafts. It was a great opportunity for these stu-dents to take an active part in the greater Jacobson community.
End of year Tax Credit Donations
It’s not too late to make your tax credit donations to help pay for the cost of your stu-dent’s field trips. Remember that in Arizona, married couples filing state taxes jointly may contribute up to $400 towards their child’s school. People filing state taxes individually may contribute up to $200.
This money is what makes it possible for our students to go on field trips to places like, Tempe Center for the Arts, MAC Farms, Science Camp, the Musical Instrument Museum, the Energy Bus Assembly and Kartchner Caverns, just to name a few. There are plenty more fields trips planned for the second half of the year.
Also, please be aware that any amount you donate above what’s needed for your student helps fund our field trip scholarships for any students who might need it. You may make your contribution through your parent portal account on Infinite Campus. Thanks for your support for education outside of the classroom!
Cheers to a Semester of Chess!
We had dozens of tournament entries this year from Jacobson, and we really grew to an emerging powerhouse in the scholastic tournament community for chess. In our kinder-garten division, we had a 4th place win, a 3rd place win and a 9th place win. In our K-3 division we had an 11th place finish and a 10th place finish. In our K-6 and K-6 Champ divi-sion, we had two 2nd place finishes, a 4th place finish, a 6th place finish and a 7th place finish. At the semester end Best of Phoenix tournament, we had a 6th place overall finish for K-6. Just to give you an idea, there are often 50 to 100 schools we are competing against in these events! So, great job Jets!
Our top tournament attenders were:
Liam Lampert, Ilay Lampert, Ben Wang, Nathan Nguyen, Tyler Nguyen, Alexander Chekano, Anay Gupta, Jack Walker, Anjolene Bailey, Amaya Mahmud, Brody Smith, Chris Pellat
