ACT Aspire Assessment to be given to 7th graders in May
The Chandler Unified School District is committed to creating a rigorous, productive learning environment for all students and also recognizing the significance of addressing the skills and characteristics that define college and career readiness. Future opportunities are a direct reflection of today’s preparation, and we understand the important role the educational experience plays in this venture. As we believe that college should be a viable option for all, we are committed to ensuring that all students are afforded the chance of participating in challenging coursework, as well as exposed to a variety of formal assessments that will expand their horizons in the post-secondary arena. Therefore, we are pleased to inform you that we will administer the nationally recognized ACT Aspire Assessment to all 7th grade students within the window of May 9th through May 20th.
The ACT Aspire is a multi-faceted test designed by the American College Test (ACT) that can be administered across several grade levels. Students will be tested in five core areas, including Mathematics, Reading, English, Science, and Writing. They will receive a score in each subject as well as a composite score reflective of their overall performance. Ideally, ACT Aspire will directly assist students in developing a solid academic plan for their high school years by allowing them to recognize their academic potential while evaluating areas that may require additional attention. Your son/daughter will receive information that will directly assist him/her with high school course selection in the spring of their 8th grade year. Ultimately, ACT Aspire provides early indicators of whether or not students are currently on track to be prepared for college and careers.
In conclusion, ACT Aspire will allow your student to gain a better understanding of where he/she stands academically compared to other students at his/her grade level locally and nationally. CUSD will use the test results to improve the 8th grade learning experience for your child and to assist students with high school registration. Ideally, through the ACT Aspire students will realize that they are capable of expanding their opportunities and horizons far beyond high school through thoughtful preparation and planning within the school environment.

Threats to School Safety
In light of recent events within CUSD and the nation, we are asking that parents and students be aware of the consequences and impacts of any activity that disrupts and threatens the safety of our schools. The Chandler Police Department and CUSD have jointly released important information related to these types of incidents. Please take the time to review with your student.
