    Welcome!

Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies and Drama! I'm Mr. Andress, and I've been an Andersen Jaguar since the 2019 school year! Can't wait to meet you, it's going to be an awesome year!

    My Education and Professional Background

I grew up here in the East Valley, and attended high school in Gilbert. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Education, Secondary Education (History), from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University graduating Summa Cum Laude. I have had the privilege of working in classrooms across the East Valley at Highland Jr. High, Mesquite High School, Highland High School, Legacy Traditional Schools, Mesa High School, Arcadia High School, and completed my student teaching at Basha High School. Prior to coming to Andersen Jr. High, I was a substitute teacher for CUSD.

    My Educational Philosophy

I believe that every student has a special gift, and that if given the right tools they can be successful in whatever path they may choose in life. Being a social studies teacher, I believe it is my job to tell the stories of our past for future generations; that is always what I have thought a historian to be, a storyteller. My job as a teacher is not to simply tell my students what occurred in the past, but it is to invigorate an analytical mind, to create a group of young people who can critically think and ask thought-provoking questions. I do not expect every student to leave my classroom with the desire of becoming a historian, but I hope that they will leave with a newfound or rediscovered appreciation for where we come from.

The Choice is Yours! Why Choose Andersen Junior High?

AJHS welcomes diversity in the classroom and provides a safe space for every student to learn and get a quality education regardless of where you come from.
