My name is Christine Portugal and I am super excited to be back in sixth grade! I have two children who both attended Santan Elementary and are now in high school. I am very involved with my children and when I am not teaching, I am a full-time mom. My kids are involved with sports and of course, academics comes first! We spend many hours transporting each of them to their practices, games, and just supporting them on the sidelines.
My Education and Professional Background
I have been teaching for over 10 years and I have been at Santan for most of them. I have taught 3rd grade, 5th grade and 6th grade. I received my Bachelors in Education from Ottawa and my Masters from NAU. Sixth grade is a great year with a lot of curriculum and fun field trips!
My Educational Philosophy
My personal goal is to challenge students and watch them grow to their fullest potential. I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. A valuable education is one that helps students learn to be accountable, responsible, and respectful. The ability to reflect on and learn from all aspects of learning will help students far into the future.
