CUSD Grading Plan for 4th quarter home instruction due to school closure

  • Elementary Grading Plan

Students will earn a Pass/Fail grade in the subjects of Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) for the 4th quarter of the 2019 – 2020 school year. The home instructional focus of the assignments is to provide preparation for the next grade level, and will be delivered online or through hard copy resources. The following guidelines will be utilized for elementary school grading.

A passing grade will be issued to students who:

    • attempt and engage in the lessons assigned
    • participate in teacher check-ins, and
    • show reasonable progression

During home instruction, an elementary student’s 4th quarter grade can only improve upon their 3rd quarter grade.

Printed materials in core content areas will be available (days and times specific to your site) for pick up by students that do not have access to lessons online.

    Junior High Grading Plan

Students will earn a Pass/Fail grade for the second semester, which will be a combination of their 3rd quarter grades and work completed during 4th quarter. The instructional focus of the assignments is to provide preparation for the next grade level, and will be delivered virtually or through hard copy resources. The following guidelines will be utilized for junior high school grading:

    • A student’s semester grade can only improve
    • Completed assignments will be tracked through Infinite Campus or Google Classroom
    • Students with a failing grade at 3rd quarter can improve to Pass for the semester, based on individual teacher expectations
    • Printed materials in core content areas will be available (days and times specific to your site) for pick up by students that do not have access to technology

    High School Grade Framework

Students will earn a letter grade for the second semester, which will be a combination of their 3rd quarter grades and work completed during 4th quarter. The instructional focus of the assignments is to provide preparation for the next grade level, and will be delivered virtually or through hard copy resources. The following guidelines will be utilized for high school grading:

    • Work completed during the 4th quarter can only improve 3rd quarter grades.
    • Grades in infinite Campus will not accurately reflect the final semester grade.
    • A max of 2 assignments per week will be input into a teacher’s gradebook per the due dates assigned by the teacher.
    • A student’s grade can only improve by one letter grade.
    • Students who do not engage in online learning opportunities, or who cease to actively complete 4th quarter instructional activities, will receive their grades as they were posted at the end of 3rd quarter.
    • No finals will be included in the semester grade.
    • Any student failing can be given work to bring the grade up to passing.

    Dual Credit

Students will need to keep up with the online work provided by their Dual Enrollment teacher(s). Students must demonstrate minimum competencies/skills, as determined by the community college, to finish the semester and earn credit. Although a student's grade can not drop for CUSD, the grade can drop for Chandler Gilbert Community College if a student does not complete assignments. With this in mind, it is important for dual enrollment students to complete the required assignments to maintain or improve their grade for CGCC. Chandler Gilbert Community College will work with CUSD teachers to ensure that students who successfully complete the dual enrollment coursework will earn their college credit.

Chandler Online: Grading procedures remain the same.
