Sheryl Kitamura, M. Ed.
ACP Band and Yearbook
I have spent most of my life living outside the continental United States. I have lived in Hawaii, England, Germany and France. I love to travel and spend time with my family. My interests are music, photography, sewing, and hiking. I love sharing music!
I am an alumnus of Chandler High School and attended Arizona State University, earning a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music. I earned my Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. I have taught band, orchestra, and general music, and yearbook grades K-12. I have spent most of my 30+years teaching at the junior high school level.
Over the course of her career, I have served as Vice President of the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association, as well as Treasurer and Vice President on the Arizona Music Educators Association executive board. I received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Arizona Music Educator’s Association and was named the KNIX/Fulton Homes Arizona Teacher of the Year.
To teach and learn about music; to recognize it as one of the most basic human activities and to improve our understanding of all types of music to the highest levels possible; to learn to appreciate the most meaningful and profound music as a means of both building character and connecting with the best part of the human spirit; to learn to perform for our own pleasure and the pleasure of our audiences; to make good music of all styles a part of our lives; to teach and learn responsibility, integrity, dependability and loyalty; to teach and learn teamwork, how to be both a good leader and a loyal and effective follower; to enjoy doing it all, realizing that accomplishment is the greatest joy.
