Hi! My name is Alma Alvarado and I am new to Bologna Elementary. In years past, I taught first and second grade for 17 years at Frye Elementary and 3rd grade for 6 years at Carlson Elementary.  I wanted to return to teaching in downtown Chandler, so here I am at Bologna. I know this is where I'm supposed to be!  I'm thrilled to be your child's teacher this year. ♥
In 1997, I earned my Undergrad degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State (GO DEVILS!) with an emphasis in Bilingual and Early Education. My Masters degree is from Northern Arizona University,  with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction.
I grew up in Mesa, went to Mesa High School (Class of 1990), settled in Chandler where my husband was born and raised. My husband Tony and I have three awesome daughters; Desiree, Anissa, and Gabriela (Gabi) and two grandkids, Noah and Sophia . Together, we enjoy watching  movies and Cardinals and A.S.U. football games, listening to and making music, camping all over Arizona, visiting our favorite San Diego, cooking for a heathier lifestyle, and spending time with our two dogs: Boston Terrier, Bruno and Yorkie Terrier mix, Chewie (short for Chewbacca).
In my classroom community, I strive to create a positive and fun environment for my students, in addition to meeting each student's individual needs. We work together through class meetings (called Community Circle) to allow students to share and express themselves about their learning, their thinking,  as well as their learning personal experiences and perspectives. This helps each student to build their personal character by giving them time to communicate, encourage respect for others and to build responsibility for their own learning and actions.
I'm looking forward to partnering with all of my parents to make this very important learning year full of growth and positive experiences for your 2nd grader!♥
