Hi! I am Carrie Shields, and I am so excited to be returning to Hull for my thirteenth year of teaching third grade.  I have been at Hull since the school opened! I have taught school for more than twenty six years.  I received my bachelor’s degree from Wayne State College in Nebraska and my master’s degree from Northern Arizona University.  I have taught preschool, kindergarten, first grade, and third grade.

My husband is Tom.  He is a retired police sergeant. We have two children.  Kaci was married this past summer in WY. She and her husband live in Oklahoma.    Wade graduated from U of A in May and he just started a new job in Mesa.    I spend a lot of time at school.  When I am not there, you can find me running or working out, lounging in the pool, taking care of my house, enjoying my Flagstaff condo, or simply reading a good book.  I log in lots of reading minutes over my short summers. I always have a book to read. The library sees me very frequently.

My husband and I like to travel.   We travelled to Ireland in 2013.  That was a fun island to visit.   The photo above is us at the Chocolate Falls of Arizona.  I have been to Florence and Venice, Italy.  I have been to visit the Coliseum in Rome. This past summer, Tom and I hiked a lot in six national parks in Utah!  We visited Zion Park, Bryce Park, the Tetons, Yellowstone, Arches Park, and Canyonlands.    I love to save up my pennies and visit new places.  It is fun to see how other cultures live, and to try foods from new places.  I like to visit "Shutterfly" and add my "memories" there! Next summer, I plan to visit Paris!

I look forward to a new year of challenges. The district has adopted a new reading series last year so I will be continuing my knowledge of it and  learning how to teach it best to my students.  There are always new ways to learn to teach Math as well.  I am sure the year will bring a few unexpected challenges as well.
