• Parenting Classes Available to School Sites
    Parenting classes are held at various Title I schools. These classes help increase parenting skills through learning about child development, communication skills, social skills, positive discipline, and community resources to help toward student success. Parents/guardians must register for classes through their school Parent Liaison.
     
     Parents and guardians learn how to:

    • improve parenting skills

    • increase self-awareness

    • develop empathetic family interaction

    • learn behavior management strategies

    • gain an understanding of child development

    • understand how to promote early literacy in children

    Additional Workshop Offerings:

     

     Active Parents

    • Objective: To learn effective communication, disciplinary methods, and to learn how to increase a child’s self-esteem
    • Target Group:  Parents with children ages two to twelve years old
    • Class Schedule : Five sessions, 2 hours each

     

    Adult-Adolescent Communication

    • Objective:  To pursue and enhance a healthy, communicative relationship with your adolescent
    • Target Group:  Parents with children ages eight to eighteen
    • Class Schedule:  Two sessions; 2 hours each

     

    Common Sense Parenting

    • Objective:  To enhance parents’ discipline skills by providing methods to improve children’s behavior
    • Target Group:  Parents with children ages five to eighteen years old
    • Class Schedule: Six sessions, 2 hours each  

     

    Emergency Situations

    • Objective:  To inform parents of what to do in emergencies, such as basic first aid, tips for injury prevention, etc.
    • Target Group:  Parents with children of all ages
    • Class Schedule: Five sessions, 2 hours each

     

    Guiding Good Choices

    • Objective: To prevent drug use in the family and to learn how to say ‘no’ to drugs
    • Target Group:  Parents of children ages nine to fourteen years old
    • Class Schedule: 5 sessions, 2 hours each

     

    Here, Now, & Down the Road

    • Objective: To provide parents with tips on how to be a loving parent
    • Target Group:  Parents of children ages five to twelve years old
    • Class Schedule : Seven sessions, 2 hours each

     

    Los Niños Bien Educados (Children Well Educated)

    • Objective: To enable parents to assist their children with the challenges of growing up in the United States
    • Target Group:  Parents with children ages two to ten years old
    • Class Schedule:  Six sessions, 2 hours each

     

    Parents Who Care

    • Objective:  To help parents avoid or minimize risks in dealing with drugs, violence, and related problems
    • Target Group:  Parents with teenagers
    • Class Schedule : Six sessions, 2 hours each

     

    Parenting Classes are generally available in the mornings. The classes are available in English and Spanish.  A variety of additional services are offered to parents who attend all sessions of any parenting classes. Some services include, but are not limited to:

     

    • Books & class materials
    • Course completion recognition
    • Child care services
    • Assistive care, such as food boxes
