• 2017 was our first year attending the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky in June.  Four students qualified by placing first and second at our State Championships.  Dominique Galvez competed in Advertising Design.  Celine Atalig, Jaden Smith, and Shannon Gilmer competed in Promotional Bulletin Board.  While we did not have any medal winners at Nationals, we learned a lot about competing at that level and had a lot of fun in the process.  Below are just a few of the pictures taken during our week at this national event.  Dominique placed in the top 10 in advertising design, which was no small feat! Not bad for our first experience! Couldn't be prouder of all these champions!

In 2018 we again qualified to attend the SkillsUSA NLSC in June, with our Promotional Bulletin Board team of Audra Moniz, Kaylie Biggs, and Abby Kozel. Unfortunately due to schedule conflicts that the students had, we were unable to attend.  At our Arizona State Championships, we had more students compete than ever before in various competitions.  Seventeen students competed in the following categories:  Advertising Design, Promotional Bulletin Board, Prepared Speech, Job Interview, Job Demonstration Open, Job Demonstration A, and Quiz Bowl.  Many students made it to the final round of competition.  The following students earned medals in their competitions:

Promotional Bulletin Board - Gold Medal winners: Audra Moniz, Kaylie Biggs, and Abby Kozel

Job Demonstration Open -  Silver Medal winner: Celine Atalig

Job Demonstration A - Bronze Medal winner: Shannon Gilmer

In 2019 we had another student, Michael Chuong, qualify to go to Nationals by placing 1st in the SkillsUSA State Championships in Advertising Design.  He attended with Mr. Keith Castillo, another PHS teacher.  Unfortunately, he did not place in the top 10, buhad an excellent experience!  Also, at the State Championships, Hagen Cates who had been in the program for three years, earned a $1000 scholarship.  Our chapter was also awarded the Gold level Chapter of Distinction award due to the outstanding program of work done by our chapter.  aAgain, we competed in various categories including quiz bowl, job interview, job demonstration A and advertising design.  A great time was had by all.
