    • Retell stories with key details
    • Identify characters, settings, and events in a story
    • Ask & answer questions about details and unknown words
    • Recognize common types of texts (poems, storybooks, etc.)
    • Name the author/illustrator & define the roles of each within a story
    • Compare and contrast experiences of characters in familiar stories
    • Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose & understanding
    • Describe the relationship between illustrations & text


    Informational Text:

    ·         Identify the main topic & retell key details

    ·         Describe the connections between events, ideas, or information in a text

    ·         Identify the front cover, back cover and title page of a book

    ·         Identify the reasons an author gives to support points in a text

    ·         Identify the similarities and differences between two texts on the same topic

    ·         Actively engage in group reading of informational and functional text, including history/social studies, science, and technical text, with purpose & understanding


    Foundational Skills:

    Print Concepts

    ·         Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page

    ·         Recognize spoken words in written language


    Phonological Awareness

    ·         Recognize & produce rhyming words

    ·         Count, pronounce, blend, & segment syllables in a spoken word

    ·         Produce the sound for each consonant

    ·         Isolate & pronounce the initial, medial vowel, & final sounds in words

    ·         Add or substitute sounds in words to make new words

    ·         Know and apply word analysis skills to decode words

    ·         Read high-frequency words by sight


    Speaking & Listening

    ·         Participate in collaborative conversations about Kindergarten topics

    ·         Speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly

    ·         Ask and answer questions in order to seek help, get information, or clarify



    ·         Explore word relationships and nuances in word meanings

    ·         Form regular plural nouns orally by adding /s/ or /es/

    ·         Understand and use question words (who, what, where, when, why, how)

    ·         Use common prepositions (to, from, in, out, on, off, for, of, by, with)
