|"Give a man a fish you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."|
Welcome to Mr. Keith’s Project Lead the Way class. I am super excited to be starting this program and to be teaching at Casteel High School. This will be my tenth year teaching in Chandler. For the past, 3 years, I have been teaching Project Lead The Way and I'm excited to be teaching it again this year. Teaching is a second career for me. Before becoming a teacher, I worked at the GM Desert Proving Ground in Mesa. When GM decided to close the facility and move it to Yuma, AZ, I stayed here.
My Education and Professional Background
My professional teaching career began over 6 years ago when I began teaching middle school science after earning my Masters of Education degree at ASU. Prior to teaching I worked at the General Motors Desert Proving Ground. I began working in the Powertrain division, building and testing automatic transmissions. During my time at the facility, I helped to develop a training program to train the new hires in the transmission division.
My Educational Philosophy
I feel that a teacher’s role is to guide children, helping them along their academic journey. It is my belief that all students are capable of learning, although they learn at varying speeds and using different techniques. I like to use hands-on activities in my classroom and let the students collaborate in small groups to achieve their goals. I understand and think that mistakes are a normal part of learning, if students’ are not making mistakes than they are not challenging themselves.
