Physical Education Department

    Dear Students/Parents/Guardians,

                    We believe that Physical Education/Weight Training is an integral part of the total education process. Our program relates to lifetime activities, which can be carried over into their adult life and assist the individual in further development: physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. We believe our program will challenge each student to reach his/her highest potential and allow opportunities for success and enjoyment.

    To ensure a hygienic and comfortable learning environment, all students are required to dress appropriately for physical education class. Proper dress includes:

    -Physical Education uniformGray sleeved t-shirt and maroon shorts (available for purchase in bookstore)

                                                           -Socks   - athletic shoes – with laces tied

    *Warm-ups/sweats (any color) may be worn over the uniform during cooler weather.

    *Students are encouraged to bring a small towel and deodorant (plastic container only).

    *Weekly laundering of clothing is strongly recommended.

    *Underwear may not hang out of the uniform and the shorts must be at hip level.

    *During warm weather students are strongly encouraged to bring water. Hats and sunscreen encouraged.

    *Do not share P.E. clothes or lockers.

    *Do not leave personal items unlocked at any time. Your items are your responsibility!

    *Piercings and tattoos are not an acceptable excuse for not participating.

    *Students must be in assigned area as instructed at all times during class.

    *No gum, food, or soda drinks allowed in the locker room – water is acceptable

    *Musical devices/cell phones are not allowed in class/locker room and may be confiscated. Staff is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

    Partial dress will not be accepted – results in a NON-Dress and loss of points

    LOCKS/LOCKERS will be assigned to each student who is in P.E. class. Students are responsible for their assigned lock. If assigned lock becomes lost or stolen at any point during the school year, the student is responsible to purchase another school lock from the bookstore. Students are not allowed to use personal locks. Students need to keep their combinations confidential. Large lockers are to be used during P.E. class time only - items left in big lockers at the end of the day will be removed and stored until claimed by owner.

    GRADING POLICY: All students will have the opportunity to earn an “A”.  The students will be graded so that 80% of their grade is based on participation and 20% is under teacher’s discretion (i.e. skills or written tests, quizzes, notebook, timed mile, etc.). Each unit is approximately 4 ½ weeks.

    Students can receive up to 50 points per week. The teacher will remove points if the student is tardy, has poor or no participation, poor attitude, uses foul language, does not dress out for class and/or has an absence. Since P. E. is a participation class, all absences will affect a student’s grade if the absence is not made up. Make up assignments will be up to the discretion of each individual teacher.

    GRADING:                                                             SEMESTER GRADE

    A = 90 – 100%                                                      40% QUARTER 1

    B = 80 – 89%                                                        40% QUARTER 2

    C = 70 – 79%                                                        20% SEMESTER EXAM

    D = 60 – 69%

    F = 59% - BELOW

    Please refer to Infinite Campus Home, progress reports, and report cards for updated grades.

    TARDIES/ATTENDANCE: A tardy is defined as not being in your designated roll call area when the bell rings. On your 2nd tardy the teacher will contact the parent/guardian, on the 3rd a referral will be sent to administration. After 10 absences the student may be dropped from the class.

    INJURED/SICK STUDENTS - Students who are restricted from physical activity due to illness or injury must provide a WRITTEN EXCUSE with a date, phone number and signed by a parent/guardian. Students will be required to complete an “alternate assignment” for non-participation days. Extended restrictions (longer than three days) must be verified and recorded by a doctor’s excuse.

    All Individuals have a right to an educational environment free from bias, prejudice and bigotry. As members of the Hamilton High School educational community, students are expected to refrain from participating in acts of harassment that are designed to demean another student’s race, gender, ethnicity, religious preference, disability or sexual orientation.
