ACP-Erie Robotics integrates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with robotics. The program gives participants an opportunity to get hands-on experience in designing, building, and programming robots. Students will also practice teamwork and the engineering design process.
The robotics class supports the three ACP-Erie robotics teams, though class enrollment does not guarantee a spot on one of the robotics teams. Students in the class will use hardware and software permitted for use in VEX Robotics competitions to design, build, and program robots to perform the skills requires for this year’s VEX Robotics competition.
- Building: Build a robot that can compete in the current VEX competition. Robots are battery powered and function primarily with motors and gears; some may use pneumatics.
- Programming: Use a VEX-compatible language to program a combination of automatic and driver-controlled movement sequences.
- Designing & Teamwork: Work within a team to make design decisions, delegate tasks, maintain a clean and functional work area, and record and report progress.
- Journaling: Record day-to-day design decisions and challenges; maintain a record of important design details.
Students are highly encouraged to bring their own devices, but these should be used only for robotics purposes (coding, research, journaling, presentations, reflections, etc.)
