Our kindergarten through second grade students visit the lab for multiple units or lessons each semester.
Goals & Activities:
Kindergarten- Students learn how to collaborate and to work within limitations and requirements to meet an end goal. They focus on team work, compromise, and the sharing of ideas.
First- In addition to what students learn in kindergarten, they are also learn domain specific vocabulary from their animal characteristics standards. Students ultimately learn more specifics of the engineering process by developing their own ideas, sharing them with a group, and compromising to design an animal with specific characteristics that meet the requirements of a task.
Second- In addition to what students learn in previous grades, they will also learn domain specific vocabulary from their weather, pioneer and animal life cycles standards. Students will go to the next level in the engineering process because the constraints and criteria for their project become more rigorous.
