Concussion Awareness & Safety Requirements
The health and safety of students participating in athletic activities at Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) facilities is a top priority. With growing concern about the prevention and treatment of concussions and head injuries, it’s important that all organizations using our facilities are aware of their responsibilities under Senate Bill 1521 (SB 1521).
What is SB 1521?
This Arizona legislation requires school districts to inform individuals and organizations using school facilities for athletic activities that they are responsible for educating coaches, participants, and parents about the risks of concussions and head injuries.
Responsibilities of Your Organization
If your group rents CUSD facilities for athletic purposes, you are required to:
- Educate coaches, students, and parents on concussion prevention, symptoms, and proper treatment.
- Share and review concussion safety resources with all individuals supervising student participants.
- Maintain records showing that this education has occurred.
