Technical Production

Overview

The purpose of Career and Technical Education is to develop future-ready students by preparing them for college expectations and labor-market demands. Each CTE Program integrates core academic knowledge with technical and professional skills to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers.

The goal of the CUSD CTE Department is for each student to become a completer in at least one program. To qualify as a completer, each student must complete a minimum of 2 or 3 years in a specific program. The majority of CUSD CTE programs are considered two-year programs, with the exception of Agriscience, and Automotive Technologies, which are three-year programs.

Students can choose to participate in a program area capstone course by enrolling in the Mentorships Internships Careers (MIC) course. See the current CUSD High School Course Catalog for more details.

CTE Performance Measures Results

The Arizona State Board of Education has approved a state accountability system that measures CTE program performance using a series of performance measures. The Perkins Act emphasizes state and local accountability. Continuous improvement is expected in six core areas of emphasis. These areas include academic standards attainment, technical skill attainment, graduation, placement, industry recognized credential attainment, and nontraditional student participation.

EVIT - East Valley Institute of Technology

The East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) is a public career and technical education school providing more than 40 occupational training programs tuition-free to district, charter school and home-schooled high school students who reside within the boundaries of 11 East Valley school districts - Apache Junction, Cave Creek, Chandler, Fountain Hills, Gilbert, Mesa, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, Tempe, Higley and J.O. Combs. Classes are offered at two centralized campuses in Mesa - the Dr. A. Keith Crandell (Main) Campus, 1601 W. Main St., and the Power Campus, 6625 S. Power Road - and at Apache Junction High School. Students spend a half-day at EVIT and the other half-day at their home high school. School districts provide bus transportation for their students to and from EVIT for most programs. Students must be at least 16 years old. Tuition-based programs for adults are also offered, with financial aid available.
