Applying to Colleges

When considering the college application process, preparation is key. It is important that you understand the entry requirements for all the universities or colleges that you are interested in applying to as they can vary from state to state. Focusing on things such as GPA, challenging courses, test score requirements, and involvement in extracurricular activities is good idea. Make time to research potential schools thoroughly to find a good balance and fit by considering things like available majors, location, size, cost, and campus culture.

College Credit & Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment provides high school students the opportunity to earn community college credits while still in high school. Dual Enrollment for CUSD is through Chandler-Gilbert Community College.

Advanced Placement (AP) offerings are an important component of the high school curriculum in CUSD. Currently, there are 45 AP courses offered throughout the district.

What is Advanced Placement (AP)?

Financial Aid

Paying for college may be one of the most significant hurdles students face. Thankfully, there are resources in place that can lessen that concern. The most notable resource is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This application is administered by the U.S. Department of Education, and is a crucial first step in the process for obtaining grants, scholarships, and loans to pay for school.

Submitting the FAFSA as early as possible is beneficial, as some types of financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Military Opportunities

Many students begin high school with the idea that the only path to a successful future is a four-year college degree. While college is a great option for many, it is not the only one. For some, a different path after graduation—one that offers unique opportunities for personal growth, career training, and financial stability—might be a better fit.

One of these alternatives is serving in the U.S. Military. The Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard all offer a variety of career paths for high school graduates. Students are encouraged to also consider these opportunities when developing the plan for their future.

CUSD's 4 E's

We focus on equipping our students for success immediately after high school graduation in either of CUSD’s 4 E’s (enrollment, enlistment, employment, entrepreneurship). Whichever path a student chooses, as the premier district of choice, CUSD is committed to building a strong foundation for every student to succeed immediately after high school graduation.

1 Employment

Entering the workforce right after high school can help students jump-start their career, develop valuable skills on the job, and start to build financial independence.

2 Enrollment

College presents students with an opportunity to explore, grow, and build a foundation for their future career, all while experiencing a new level of independence.

3 Enlistment

Joining the military offers students a change to serve their country, receive top-notch training, and gain valuable life skills all while traveling and gaining additional education.

4 Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is all about building something from the ground up. It may be challenging, but is also a rewarding journey where your passion can turn into a business allowing you to solve problems your own way.
