Sophomore Roadmap
Congratulations, and welcome to your Sophomore year of high school. You should feel proud of the accomplishments that you've made thus far, and for making the necessary adjustments and adaptations during your Freshman year.
Now it is time to continue building upon the progress that you have already made. Check out the Second Year Checklist for an idea of things to focus on this year. Make sure to stay in contact with your counselor to ensure you are still on track with your path toward graduation.
Second Year Checklist
- Register for the PSAT/NMSQT®, consider a practice ACT® or SAT®
- Review transcript and make sure everything is correct.
- Build relationships with your teachers, as they will be your recommenders.
- Continue to volunteer and log your hours. Also, consider a summer enrichment program.
- Visit college campuses and attend college fairs at school.
- Register and pay for Dual Enrollment and AP tests.
- Consider taking the ASVAB (military Career Readiness Test) to help with your career interest.
- Grades Matter! Continue to work hard and prioritize your studies.

Stay Connected
Continue to meet regularly with your School Counselor, as well as the College and Career team to build a strong relationship. They will help you stay on track with your graduation plan, and guide you along your college and career journey. You'll also want to utilize resources like teacher office hours, tutoring, and Khan Academy to keep up with your classes.
Tutoring
As soon as you struggle in any class, or notice that you may need additional help, ask your teacher when their tutoring times are. Don't wait until you are feeling lost before you reach out. Visit your schools tutoring page to find out more about the tutoring schedule. Also, please reach out to your counselor if you need more information.
College Credit & Dual Enrollment
Dual Enrollment provides high school students the opportunity to earn community college credits while still in high school. Dual Enrollment for CUSD is through Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
Advanced Placement (AP) offerings are an important component of the high school curriculum in CUSD. Currently, there are 45 AP courses offered throughout the district.
