School Counselor & Social Worker System of Care

The Department of Counseling and Social Services strives to implement a comprehensive School Counseling and Social Work model that utilizes data to drive and determine supports. Students have access to a School Counselor and/or a Social Worker at every CUSD site (Find Your Counselor or Social Worker Here).

In CUSD School Counselors and Social Workers are expected to follow a tiered-model approach to programming. For example, Tier 1 would include classroom lessons, Tier 2 would be small support groups, and Tier 3 could be a referral to a community behavioral health agency (with parent/guardian consent). Please see the Referral Pathway graphic below to better understand access to services.

Some CUSD sites also have School Social Workers and if this is the case then the referral for additional supports can be made to them too. Additionally, CUSD sites have full or part-time School Psychologists- they must be informed of a school counseling referral when the concern is related to a suspected or known disability.
