CUSD aligns its Physical Education and Health curriculum with the Arizona Department of Education standards, which emphasize developing students’ knowledge, skills, and confidence to engage in a lifetime of healthy physical activity. In grades K–12, students explore health-enhancing physical fitness, movement competence, nutritional literacy, and the value of ongoing wellness, preparing them for active, healthy lives and career-readiness.
Physical education provides opportunities for all students to participate fully and explore a diverse range of activities, exposing them to new ideas and experiences. Equipment and activities are modified as needed to meet students’ developmental needs. Students develop self-confidence through participation in both cooperative and competitive activities.
Health education provides students with opportunities to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to develop, maintain, and enjoy healthy lifestyles, as well as to solve problems, make informed decisions, and set goals that are directly related to their personal health and well-being. Learning how to establish, maintain, and nurture healthy relationships is a vital life skill.
Physical education and health education instruction focus on developing the knowledge, attitudes, motor skills, behavioral skills, and confidence needed to adopt and maintain physically active lifestyles. The curriculum aligns with National, State, and district standards.
