Website Blocking and Unblocking

Per federal and state law, CUSD is required to have an Internet filter in place to block inappropriate or harmful materials from students. No Internet filter is perfect: just as many sites "sneak through" the filter even though they are inappropriate, many sites are also blocked that have significant educational value (and are appropriate for our educational community).

When you believe that an educationally valuable and appropriate website is being blocked on our district network, please complete an unblocking request by following the instructions on our Digital Hub. This site will be examined by district staff, and if it is deemed appropriate, it will be unblocked as quickly as possible.

Likewise, if you feel that an allowed site is inappropriate for student use and should be blocked, you can submit a request to block websites, as well.

Student Devices

The 1:1 Device Guide will help provide up to date information about your district device.

Elementary Students

In grades K-2, students are assigned iPads. These devices are stored in a locked charging cabinet, on-site, and do not go home.
Students in grades 3-6 on elementary campuses are assigned Chromebooks. These devices are stored in a locking charging cabinet, on site, and do not go home.

Junior High School Students

Students in grades 7-8, as well as 6th graders at ACP-MS, AJHS, and BAMS, are provided with Chromebooks. These devices are used daily for in-class learning and are taken home for homework, requiring students to bring them fully charged each day.

High School Students

At our high school campuses, students are issued Windows or Chromebook laptops. These devices are used daily for in-class learning and are taken home for homework, requiring students to bring them fully charged each day.

Digital Role Model - Best Practices

As a staff member, it is important to be a digital role model for students.

Lock your computer - When stepping away from a computer always be sure to log out or lock the computer. This will keep all our digital data safe and secure.
Keep devices updated - The Digital Hub will help staff with maintaining devices.
Secure passwords - It is important to have a secure and unique password for all your digital accounts. The great news is staff have the ability to use single sign on with their Microsoft and Google accounts.
