My name is Nancy Dobbins and I love to teach music! It’s been a part of my life ever since age three in schools, in churches, and in the community. I grew up in a musical family and played the clarinet for 10 years and later I learned guitar, piano, keyboard and soprano recorder. I use activities from the Chandler District music curriculum, which comes from the music education standards for Arizona and the US.
My Education and Professional Background
I have been general education teacher over 20 years and am starting my 6th year teaching elementary music. My Associates degree is from Christ for the Nations Institute with a music minor. My Bachelors degree is in child development from the University of Arizona. My master’s degree is in Curriculum and Instruction with a Focus on K - 8 Reading from Grand Canyon University. I have attended Kodaly Level 1 training and Orff Level 1 training.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe a good music program should develop creativity, good character, good teamwork, and great musicianship skills! I like to do that with many hands-on activities that use the whole body. In addition, I also believe that good music programs should enable students to find strengths in audience presentation skills along with finding a way to make a difference in their world as good leaders and good followers. Developing life-long learners is also what I strive to develop in my students.
