Welcome!

Welcome to Community Preschool! My name is Tara Mountjoy and I’m so excited to be spending another year at Santan Elementary! Early Childhood Education is my passion and I truly believe that a young child who is nurtured to reach his or her educational goals from an early age will continue to pursue educational goals for the rest of their lives. I can’t wait to spend the next year growing and exploring new ideas with your student.

My Education and Professional Background

I attended Arizona State University (GO SUN DEVILS!) to begin my program of study and finished my courses at Grand Canyon University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education in December of 2012. Following graduation, I spent 4 ½ years teaching Community Preschool in the Peoria Unified School District. In the summer of 2018, I was welcomed into CUSD and I look forward to continuing my teaching career as a Preschool Teacher in this amazing school district!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe it is important to provide a safe and nurturing environment, which promotes social-emotional, language and communication, cognitive, health and physical development. I believe that early childhood students thrive in an environment that is positive and welcoming. I believe in teaching “please and thank you.” I believe that my classroom becomes family. That we all take care of each other and treat each other with respect while still enjoying each other’s company. I believe in teaching students to always put their best foot forward. Mistakes and asking for help are okay but giving up or not trying is not. I believe that parents and teachers are a team and having a positive relationship with one another is crucial to maintain a healthy, ever-growing learning community. I believe that teachers are never done learning and should embrace the idea that there is always room to grow.
