Welcome!
Welcome! I am excited to be part of the Basha family and especially the 6th grade teaching team! I moved to Chandler, AZ from Wallingford, CT in 2018. I had lived in New England my entire life (except for a 3 year period; where I lived in Sulphur Springs, TX during my early high school years). I have always felt lucky to have had the experiences of moving during my early academic years, as it exposed me to so many people and experiences I would not have otherwise have had.
My Education and Professional Background
I graduated in 1990 from SCSU with my Bachelor of Science Degree. In 1995, I graduated from Sacred Heart University with an Advanced Certification Degree in Elementary Education. I received my Master's Degree in Education from SCSU in 2009. In 2011 and 2012, I engaged in American Voices grant work in the areas of Social Studies and Literacy. In 2015 I was awarded a Fund for Teachers grant and became an FFT Fellow. Over the 20 years I taught in CT, I had the pleasure of serving on my School Leadership Team; as well as the District's Leadership Team. I began my teaching career in 1998; and have been teaching at Basha Elementary since 2018.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe in the importance of meeting my students, where they are at . I believe that all students learn differently and therefore, should be given the opportunity to learn in a way that works best for them. I also believe that with those opportunities comes an expectation of personal responsibility from our learners. Facilitating instruction under our National and State Standards, I will encourage, enrich and challenge each of my students. My students can expect to learn in a safe, compassionate, fair and challenging daily environment. They can also expect to be held to, and supported in, high daily standards; not only in the area of academics, but also in the areas of personal accountability and growth mindset. I look forward to working with my students as they work on creating, monitoring, and succeeding in their personal learning and behavioral goals throughout their academic year.
