5/14/2020DISTRICT LETTER SENT TO SENIOR FAMILIES - MAY 14, 2020Thank you for your patience as we continue to determine the best course of action for graduations. My last communication indicated we were exploring a voluntary in-person ceremony at each high school for the first week of June.
The Arizona Department of Health Services disseminated their recommendations and guidelines on May 11, 2020. While they are not recommending mass gatherings such as graduations, they did suggest postponing, canceling, or holding virtually. The virtual ceremony that is being prepared will be our official graduation. Based on the AZDHS recommendations, we have decided to postpone an opportunity for a voluntary in-person graduation until later in June.
Prioritizing the health and safety of our students and staff remains the highest priority. Following numerous meetings with high school principals and district staff, measuring stadium seating, determining feasibility of implementing the recommended guidelines, we are planning to postpone the voluntary in-person ceremony until June 24th for Hamilton and Perry High Schools and June 25th for ACP-Erie, Basha, Chandler, and Casteel High Schools. The ceremony will be modified to include social distancing for graduates, their names will be read, and photographs taken as they walk across the stage, etc. It is important to note our large high schools cannot accommodate the required 6 feet between guests that is currently required by CDC and ADHS.
At this time, we are requesting your input on all three ***questions*** so that plans can be finalized. Please respond by Monday, May 18, 2020.
Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. The next communication will be from your school principal with details for June 24th or 25th.
Camille Casteel, Ed.D
*** Refer to the email sent to all Senior families in order to reply to CUSD with your input by Monday, May 18th. ***
