About
Smith...
Welcome to 2nd grade. I am so excited to be your teacher for the next year! There are so many fantastic and exciting things to learn and I cannot wait to get started!
My Education and Professional Background
Teaching and Nursing seem to run in my family so becoming a teacher was just a matter of time. Teaching is a second career for me. Originally, I earned a BA in Business Administration and Psychology. My first job was with American Express as a conversion specialist. I left that job to marry my husband and together we successfully ran a business for the next 12 years. We sold our business and moved to Arizona where I took a job teaching preschool. I loved it! So I went back to school and earned my BA in Elementary Education as well as my MA in Instruction and Curriculum from ASU. Since my son had a severe reading disability, my career eventually focused on the science of teaching reading. I have been a Reading Specialist and Instructional Coach for 7 of my 15 years of teaching. I have also taught Kindergarten, first, second and third grade.
My Educational Philosophy
Learning should be a wonderful experience. I believe in making learning fun and engaging. I believe that we all learn differently and I look forward to the opportunity to get to know your child. The classroom environment should be a safe place where ideas are shared, where everyone works hard and respects one another, and where students can reach their full potential! I am dedicated to giving my best and I look forward to working together as a team to help your child succeed!
