Welcome!

Welcome to a new school year and fifth grade! I am excited to be your teacher this year. This year is the beginning of a whole new you. Opportunity is knocking. Invite it in. As you begin this new school year, I hope you will blaze new trails and seek new horizons.

My Education and Professional Background

The 2019-2020 school year will be my twentieth year of teaching. This will be my second year teaching in Arizona. Last year, I taught fifth grade at Benjamin Franklin Charter School. Before that, I spent eighteen years teaching in Wheaton, Illinois; thirteen of those years were spent in fifth grade, three years in second grade and one year in third grade and kindergarten. I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northern Illinois University and master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in technology from Benedictine University. I am currently working toward my master's degree in Educational Leadership at Arizona State University.

My Educational Philosophy

Teaching is an absolute passion of mine! My philosophy of education can be summarized in a single word - engagement. I believe the key to unlocking student potential is keeping students interested and engaged throughout the learning process while maintaining a positive mindset. In addition, a teacher must create a classroom environment that is welcoming and accessible. They need to build good relationships with students, establish mutual respect, and set the tone for a classroom community.
