Welcome!

Welcome to Ryan Elementary & General Music!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in May of 2015. I received a Bachelor of Music Education degree and am licensed to teach PK–12. My primary instrument of study was piano, and I am also experienced with violin and voice. I have been teaching private piano lessons to elementary-aged students for about 13 years outside of school hours. My professional career started at an elementary school in the Tempe school district where I taught K-5 general music and choir. I taught in Tempe for four years and have had many great leadership opportunities during my time there. I was elected as a member of the Music Advisory Committee for the district, I recorded vocals and accompaniments for the district honor choir, I led after school music and orchestra clubs, I planned and directed biannual choral performances, and I ran the school talent show at the end of each year. I look forward to new and exciting experiences this year at Ryan Elementary!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that general music is a comprehensive, balanced, and sequential study of music that is designed for all people. Studying music provides opportunities for social-emotional development, collaboration, gaining an appreciation for a variety of world cultures, perseverance, responsibility, work ethic, problem solving, leadership, pattern recognition, creativity, and practicing many other important life-skills through fun and engaging activities. General music classes are an essential part of elementary education.
