About
Wendt...
I am so excited to be your teacher this year! Looping up with you will be a real treat for me. How is this for a fun fact: When I started teaching in 1992, my first position was as a 5th Grade Gifted teacher! Fifth Grade is awesome! We will have a busy year together, working hard, learning a ton, and having lots of fun!
My Education and Professional Background
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alaska, and my Master's degree in the Humanities with an emphasis in Literature from California State University. I hold my Gifted Specialist endorsement, and I have a nerdy passion for professional development to keep my knowledge and practice current. I have additional endorsements as a Mathematics Specialist and Middle Grade Specialist, as well as in English as a Second Language (ESL) and Middle School Language Arts.
My Educational Philosophy
Learning happens best in a kind environment where students feel respected, safe, and comfortable taking risks. I do my best to integrate all core subjects, along with high expectations and rigorous, meaningful experiences. I believe in building and nurturing relationships and community while honoring the many different ways in which children learn.
