    Welcome!

    Welcome to second grade! I'm so excited to be part of your child's educational journey. Second grade is such a pivotal year where students really become independent in so many ways. I look forward to embarking on an educational adventure with your child this year.

    My Education and Professional Background

    I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a bachelors in Mass Communications and Journalism and went on to obtain my master's degree in Elementary Education here in Arizona. I began my career in education as a teacher in 2001. In 2009, I obtained my National Board Certification then went on to become a semi-finalist for AZ Teacher of the Year in 2011. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. In addition, I worked for three years in various educational roles. I've been in CUSD since 2014 and I joined the CTA Independence family in 2019.

    My Educational Philosophy

    Albert Einstein once said, "Failure is success in progress." I believe that students learn best when they are challenged in an environment where they feel safe to take risks. I always tell my students, "If it's not hard, than you're not learning," and try to instill the belief that failures are opportunities for growth. I work to cultivate thinking within my scholars, spark their curiosity, and navigate learning with them.
