About Mr. Delawn Leggett...
Position: Assistant Principal
Greetings Firebirds families. I serve as an Assistant Principal at Willis. Being in this position allows me the opportunity to connect with our communities students, parents, and families while supporting our 7th graders. I have always looked forward to each school year since I started my educational career and I cannot wait to see what this academic year will bring.
My Education and Professional Background
I started my educational career in the early 2000’s as a history teacher and coach at the secondary level. As a teacher in the classroom, I taught World History, American History, APUS History, Government, and American Cultures classes. As an adjunct professor for Maricopa Colleges, I taught World History Classes, American History, Arizona History, and African American History.
I started my coaching career at the secondary level as a Head Track & Field coach, assistant football coach, and basketball coach. I later moved on to coach track & field at the collegiate level. I currently assist with the timing of track & field meets as well as offer personalized speed training sessions to athletes of all sports and levels.
I have also volunteered as a club sponsor for the step team, Black Student Union, and College Club.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe all students have the ability to learn and grow. I believe that we as educators have the responsibility to our students to provide them with the appropriate opportunities and experiences so that they may do so by meeting them at their learning level.
