|Position:||Junior English - Creative Writing - We Dine Together Sponsor|
Communicating effectively is an essential aspect of a student's academic, personal, and career successes. I prefer my students consider this to be a communications class, as opposed to an English Language Arts class. In Junior English at Hamilton High School, students will read American historical, fiction and non-fiction literature and texts, while simultaneously learning numerous ways to improve their written and verbal communication skills. APA exam preparation is also an integral part of the Junior English curriculum. All instructional material strictly follows Arizona State Standards and Chandler Unified School District’s Junior English curriculum.
My Education and Professional Background
1996 B.A. English, Arizona State University; 1998 M.Ed. Curriculum & Instruction, Arizona State University; over 36 earned credits in Creative Writing courses. Fluency in Spanish, conversational Italian, and passable French speaking skills assist me in communicating with students from many cultures and backgrounds.
My Educational Philosophy
An educator's job is not simply to teach, but also to advocate for, support, represent, and uphold every student’s rights as an individual. I teach holistically by considering every aspect of your student’s success: Emotional, personal and academic growth. I chose to be a teacher because I consider every child to be as important as if they were my own, and I treat them with that same respect and concern. Please rest assured that I will utilize every skill I have learned in my 23 years of secondary public education to ensure your student’s attainment of a high school diploma and, more importantly, confidence and self-empowerment.
