Welcome!

Hello, I am Mrs. McMains. I am thrilled to be the new School Counselor here at Jacobson and am looking forward to working with you and your student(s) this upcoming year! I am a native to Arizona and love living and serving in the Chandler area. I am married and have three wonderful children – all of which attended Jacobson Elementary. If you have any questions or are interested in receiving information about my services, please do not hesitate to call, email, or stop by my office.

My Education and Professional Background

I received my Masters in Counseling Education with an emphasis in School Counselor from the University of Phoenix and a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona. I have been an educator in the Chandler Unified School District for 29 years. My husband and I also teach pre-marriage, marriage and parenting workshops in the Phoenix area.

My Educational Philosophy

As a student-centered counselor, it is of utmost importance to build positive and trusting relationships and connections with the students. My primary focus is to teach and guide students how to learn and grow from their experiences and behaviors. In addition to being a student-centered counselor, I use a solution-focused approach. I teach students to create and meet their goals and help them develop and use coping skills as well as pull from a toolbox of resources when faced with challenges. I always work toward helping students become healthy socially, emotionally, and academically. I believe this process takes teamwork - working with the student, parents/guardians, teacher, administration, and community resources. I truly believe students that are emotionally and socially healthy are better able to focus in class, take responsibility for their actions, and take advantage of their educational experiences.
