Wood...
Welcome to AJHS and the READ180 classroom! All the information you need about READ180 can be found on my web pages. We currently use Next Generation of READ180 being used with our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students enrolled in this class. So, come on in and check out the sites! If you feel like you didn't get all your questions answered or you can't find the information you need, please feel free to drop me an e-mail at wood.carol@cusd80.org.
My Education and Professional Background
I attended the University of Arizona (GO WILDCATS!) and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I also have my Master's Degree from Northern Arizona University. My certificate is in Elementary Education (K-12), plus I have a READING ENDORSEMENT (which basically means I have taken a TON of classes on teaching reading and how children best learn to read). I also am highly qualified in the area of Language Arts for junior high. I began my career teaching 2nd grade at Weinberg Elementary and I have taught 1st grades through graduate level in college. I have worked for Chandler Schools since my career began...in 1986.This is my 10th year at AJHS. I have been teaching READ180 for nine years.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. I have high expectations for all of my students and feel that every student can learn content and character! By providing quality instruction of reading skills and strategies through differentiated instruction and cooperative learning, I encourage my students to become active participants in their education. Not only do they learn content, but they also gain a sense of community, respect, and responsibility.
