At the same time, he hopes to present challenging problems along with strategies on how to articulate ideas in a powerful language. He hopes to expose students to new ideas, challenge them daily, and foster a supportive environment to help them grow.Miss O’Roark: Miss O’Roark has been teaching at Payne Junior High School since 2010. She taught French for six years at Willis Junior High and three years at West Oak Middle School in Mundelein, IL. Math is a passion of hers and she has been teaching gifted students since 2014. She moved to Arizona in 2004 from Illinois where she was born and raised and currently lives in Chandler with her Yorkie, Gigi.Mrs. Hansen: Her main goal is to teach students to think critically, work collaboratively, and take science to new depths of questioning and consequently, understanding. Teaching the real world skills that will help students prosper, while conducting hands on science labs, and studying via quiz game formats provides a new perspective on solid science foundations. She combines rigor, accountability, student centered learning, and a genuine love for science to form a community of inquiry minded, critically thinking, and intrinsically motivated learners. Mrs. Hansen graduated from ASU with a B.A. in Elementary Ed, STEM, and an additional certificate in Environmental Sciences Education Studies. She understands CATS from the parents perspective, having a son who is also in the program. Her goal is to teach her students how to learn, not stress, about school.
Mr. Heady: This is Mr. Heady’s fifth year teaching Social Studies, and his fourth while at Payne. In addition to teaching CATS Social Studies, he is also the advisor for the Payne chapter of National Junior Honors Society. He grew up in Arizona and graduated from ASU. He truly enjoys working with gifted students, as it allows him the opportunity to create interesting lessons with the aim of inspiring a love and passion for Social Studies.
