Welcome!

Welcome to 6th Grade! My name is Richard Ruiz and I will be your child’s language arts teacher this year. I am enthusiastically anticipating a great school year filled with lots of learning and hope you’re looking forward to it as much as I am! On a personal note, I was born in Payson, Utah, however I have lived in Arizona since I was 1 year old. I enjoy reading, writing, camping, playing video games and spending time with my yellow Labrador Rocco and my German Shepherd Toby.

My Education and Professional Background

I have been teaching in the Chandler Unified School District since 2002. I received my bachelor's degree in elementary education from Arizona State University and my master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Northern Arizona University as well as a second master's degree in educational technology from Arizona State University. While working for the Chandler Unified School District I have taught media, 2nd, 5th and 6th grades. I also currently teach graduate courses in educational technology at Grand Canyon University.

My Educational Philosophy

I firmly believe that through hard work and determination no goal is unattainable and that every individual is responsible for their own success. It is my goal to create a positive influence with every child in my classroom by challenging them through captivating lessons and instruction through a structured yet dynamic learning environment, that will eventually help build self-confidence, critical thinking skills, self-discipline, strength in character and many of the other skills that will be needed to help prepare your child to be a successful leader in the 21st century.
