Students, make sure you join the Knox Gifted Academy BOB Edmodo group.Battle of the BooksAll 5th and 6th graders are permitted and encouraged to join the Battle of the Books. This is an optional reading contest with more than 2,000 students participating in the East Valley. Students join as a team of three; read 12 pre-selected books; compete in 3 contests at their school answering detailed questions about the books; and finally a school winner is announced in March or April. The winning team from each Chandler school goes on to compete against other Chandler schools in a semi-finals contestled by Chandler Public Library librarians. If they place in the top 3 at the semi-finals they move on to the city finals and then, potentially, on to a regional contest (depending on their finish at the city finals). The public librarians from Mesa, Gilbert, Higley, Queen Creek and Chandler select the book titles each year and develop the questions. The books span all genres and reading levels with the intent that there is something for everyone. We hope that at the end of this competition students will have enjoyed books they might not have ever chosen for themselves.
Every team will need to read the 4 books from each Battle group below before each of the three school Battle competitions. The scores will be totaled from all three battles.
