Jean Wilhelm has been a teacher in the Chandler Unified School District since 1998. She holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Secondary Education (Mathematics), a Master of Education in Secondary Education (Curriculum and Instruction) and Principal Graduate Certification Degree. She has held numerous leadership positions at local and state levels which include Math Department Chair at Basha High School, Arizona Education Association Executive Board member, Chandler Education Association vice-pre

My Education and Professional Background

Ms. Wilhelm is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and has held positions on the School Funding Initiatives Task Force and the Graduation Improvement through AIMS Task Force. Ms. Wilhelm facilitated the Basha North Central Accreditation process and brought together administrators, department chairs, and teachers to work collectively to develop a new vision and mission statement based on the changing needs of the school and community. Ms. Wilhelm was awarded the Apple Achievement Award, a peer nominated Teacher of the Year Award and Intel Teach to the Future Master Teacher Award. Ms. Wilhelm held the distinction of being one of only 100 educators selected for the Intel Teach to the Future and received several congratulatory letters from state representatives for this honor. Ms. Wilhelm was a 2012 nominee for Arizona Education Foundation Teacher of the Year.

My Educational Philosophy

Ms. Wilhelm has been a strong AEA and CEA leader throughout her teaching career and encourages others to assume leadership positions within AEA and CEA. She has met with Arizona state legislators on behalf of public education issues, canvassed neighborhoods, solicited votes for education friendly candidates, and writes letters to local and national representatives on a regular basis. She is committed to being a voice for public education and educators as well as forging support from our local and national legislatures.
