Welcome!

Welcome to my 4th grade class! My name is Carmen Duran and I'm excited to work with you and your child this year. I am a new resident to both Arizona and to CTA Goodman. We moved to Chandler, Arizona in January 2014 with my husband's job at Intel Corporation. Since coming to Arizona, we have enjoyed the many things that our new home has to offer. We try to have new adventures while exploring the area. I look forward to a wonderful school year!

My Education and Professional Background

I did not start my career in teaching, but found my calling later in life. I was an Account Executive for Qwest Communications handling multi-million dollar national business accounts. I chose to leave the business world behind to dedicate my time to my three young children. I also returned to school and received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the College of Santa Fe, with an emphasis on Psychology. I returned to teach Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade in Albuquerque, New Mexico for six years. While teaching in New Mexico, I was nominated for The Golden Apple Award and The Albuquerque Public School Teacher Honor Roll. I also met some incredible families and still cherish their friendship.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe the children learn best while they are having fun! I strive to keep students engaged in all subject matters by creating a connection with material. I have also found that teaching children is very similar to presenting to a boardroom – you only have a few seconds to get their attention. Children will let you know very quickly if they are buying what you are selling.
