"I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for in the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys of learning."

Welcome!

Welcome to band at Carlson Elementary School. This is my third year teaching band at Carlson Elementary and my tenth year teaching in CUSD. I am very happy and excited to be working in such a great learning community! Please familiarize yourself with the resources on this website, and always feel free to contact me with any questions.

My Education and Professional Background

I earned my Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education at Lawrence University in Appleton Wisconsin. Prior to graduating, I completed my teaching internship at Roberto Clemente High School in inner-city Chicago where I taught band and steel band. I began teaching music in CUSD in 2005 and since then I have taught at Basha High School, Payne Junior High School, Chandler Traditional Junior High (now ACP Oakland), Patterson Elementary, Weinberg Elementary, Santan Elementary, Haley Elementary, CTA Freedom Elementary, and Humphrey Elementary. Subjects that I have taught include elementary band, junior high band, jazz band, AP music theory, general music, and steel band. I have been involved in the Chandler Academy for the Performing Arts (CAPA), and am currently in the process of earning my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education.

My Educational Philosophy

Participating in band is a fun and exciting experience not to be missed! Please take a moment to look around and explore the website. On the left of the screen, you'll find a number of links to important band information. Most importantly, please use the band calendar to stay on top of this year's band schedule. Students are expected to bring their instruments every day they have band. Also, if you are in 5th grade, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Smart Music section of this website.
