Welcome!

I am looking forward to a great year at Casteel. It is going to be an extraordinary time as we blaze new paths in computer technology and cyber.

My Education and Professional Background

You could say that I majored in majoring! From dental hygiene, business and finishing with a degree in political science from Illinois State University. Years later in life I found myself back in school getting my teaching degree and in April finished my Masters. I am highly qualified in elementary education, special education (cross categorical), health and am Microsoft certified. Before becoming a teacher I worked in corporate USA. In nearly all my circumstances I ended up being the go-to person or teaching something. The last career before teaching brought me to CompUSA, where I taught computer software for six years and became a certified Microsoft Office Expert. I have taught Peachtree, QuickBooks, Access, Word, Excel & PPT (L1 – L3), Publisher, HTML, FrontPage, Windows, GroupWise, Lotus Notes, Outlook and others. I have traveled the US teaching MS software at various companies including the SSA.

My Educational Philosophy

Technology is the future. Every student needs to be literate in this field to survive in the employment fields of their future.

My Education and Professional Background

I am so thrilled to be here this year at Casteel High School teaching science and the gifted program. At Arizona State, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology, I became a teaching assistant for an animal physiology lab. There I was able to share my excitement and love for biology to other students who were just as passionate as me. This twisted my career path in a new direction. I had to become a teacher. I continued my education and completed my Masters in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Biology. I currently hold my gifted endorsement and I am highly qualified in Biology. I have had the opportunity to teach core and honors biology at Chandler High, and 7th/8th Grade Gifted Science at Payne for 3 years. I am very excited to get to know not only my students but also parents. I am looking forward to working together to strive for educational excellence for all students.

My Educational Philosophy

Many students come to school in order to achieve success and challenge themselves. The classroom is not the only place where this should happen. With a solid work ethic, dedication, passion, and ambition, dreams are achievable. While the road to success may not always be smooth, I strive to prepare students to rise to the occasion. The purpose of science is to understand natural phenomenon and the world around us through investigation and inquiry. Teachers are able to provide the knowledge, explanations, and applications of science to each and every student. I hope while doing this, I challenge student’s ideas and spark their interests. In the science classroom, it is essential to not only present the material for students to understand, but to also incorporate real-life experiences and activities that revolve around the information being presented. Students learn best by doing, discovering, experimenting, and applying. This is seen in my classroom on a daily basis.

Welcome!

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! Hello! My name is Lisa Dobson and I am excited to be a teacher at Casteel High School. This year I will be teaching American Sign Language and sponsor the GSA club. This is my 10th year teaching high school and my fourth year working for Chandler. I am looking forward to a great school year! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

My Education and Professional Background

I am a proud graduate of Phoenix College where I received my degree in Sign Language Interpreting. After a career as an interpreter for over 8 years, I obtained my B.A in Education from Ottawa University and a Masters Degree in School Counseling. I have been teaching for 7 years and enjoy every minute of it!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that every child has the right to receive the best education possible. I believe that the special people chosen to provide that education must make sure everything they teach, say, do and believe comes from the heart. I believe that along with education comes personal growth, self respect, and respect for others and a yearning for knowledge that stays an entire lifetime. I feel that a great teacher learns just as much from each of their students than their students learn from them. I believe that a successful classroom is a classroom that doesn't know the difference between work and fun, their work IS fun. A successful teacher doesn't teach to a book, they teach to the day. They are flexible, energetic, understanding and seize each day as a new opportunity to impact the lives of their students.

Welcome!

I hope you are as thrilled as I am to be a part of Casteel High School where the staff works together to build and encourage Courage, Character, and Commitment. I can't wait to get to know each of my new students and to provide meaningful math experiences that will help each one to achieve success.

My Education and Professional Background

II was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. I earned my BS degree from the University of Portland in Communications Management. I moved to Arizona in 1999 and earned my teacher certification from ASU. I earned my Masters in Educational Technology from NAU on May 11 of 2013. When I first graduated from college, I worked in banking for 12 years. I started teaching in the late summer of 2002 in Phoenix. I moved to the Chandler District in 2005 and taught both the 5th and 6th grade at Basha Elementary. I joined the Casteel Colts in 2015 and love teaching on the math team.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that math is a subject that should be enjoyed through participating in math experiences where meaningful learning takes place. Although some parts of math have to be memorized, most of our math learning comes from exploring math concepts so that we gain a deeper conceptual understanding of what we are doing and of why the traditional algorithms work. Math is not just a subject, but a way of thinking. It's important to help students connect what we learn in math to the useful real-life applications of the concepts.

Here you'll find contact information for the director, weekly updates and events, current pieces of music for practicing, and any other general announcements. Please feel free to check out the website, and please do not hesitate to contact the director with any questions!

My Education and Professional Background

A graduate of the University of Arizona (BM), I began my career teaching in middle school and elementary school band. During my time at the UA, I was the Drum Major for the Pride of Arizona Marching Band for three years. In this role, I became known for my high-energy and passionate performing and teaching style, receiving notice all across the PAC12 conference. Also while at the UA, I was part of the internationally acclaimed UA Wind Ensemble, serving as principal clarinet. I have also been acc epted to study wind conducting and teaching techniques in workshops at UCLA, Northwestern, and Michigan State. As a young professional, I've worked with award-winning local high schools as professional staff and serve as an educator and clinician with the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy, teaching leadership, conducting, and rehearsal techniques to student leaders across the country. This will be my second year in CUSD, and I am very excited to be part of the Casteel Band from the ground up!

My Educational Philosophy

My philosophy rotates around the simple idea that band is for all. I believe that every student should have access to a band program and participate to the best of their ability. As evidenced by countless research, studying music has incredible impacts on all areas of a student’s life. Music communities provide structure, discipline, and probably the most important: passion. When approaching programming and the daily activities of the Casteel band, we will focus on developing a solid foundation for our band to grow through technique and solid, consistent tone production. Challenge and encouragement are what grow a band program, and it is crucial that it is framed through positivity. Throughout my teaching and own experiences as a student, I have striven to create a love for band and playing an instrument. It is my goal when students graduate from the Casteel Band Program to be not only life-long music lovers, but also life-long participants and advocates for music education.

Welcome! I am very excited to build culture and tradition here at Casteel High alongside my students. I am a product of Chandler Unified School District, and grew up here in Chandler. I'm always willing to discuss a good book, movie, or show, and share stories of the many adventures to be had here in our desert. Let's make it a great year!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Hamilton High School and immediately attended Arizona State University, where I received a degree in Secondary Education, and a degree in English Literature. I have three years of teaching experience, all here in Chandler.

My Educational Philosophy

Students must be allowed to think critically and creatively, without being punished for taking risks. Further, self-advocacy and reflection should be celebrated. I believe that independent reading is infinitely valuable, and that the students' personal reads have a place alongside the classroom texts. Every student is an individual, and their teacher needs to recognize their own personal needs to help them obtain growth and achievement.

My Educational Philosophy

Excitement fills the air as the coin is tossed, the teams eager with excitement are ready to take the field; this is the culmination of discipline, commitment and preparation. This is the competition; this is why we put on the pads, condition until our bones ache and why we truly love the game. Both sides will play hard, both sides will be competitive, unfortunately, only one team will win. The way a team wins or loses is more important to me than the win itself and a program that teaches char for continuous success through collaborative effort. Preparedness and sportsmanship are what a team needs to be successful, and how I will foster successful teamwork as a coach. Team unity and building a family like atmosphere will always be at the top of the hierarchy. Coming together as a team takes time and hard work. Putting on the same color jerseys distinguishes you. We are very proud that all three of our children are products of the Chandler Unified School District. In my spare time I like to travel, fish, golf, hike and attend ASU football games.

My Education and Professional Background

I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education from the Master's College (formerly Los Angeles Baptist College). I completed two Master's Degrees: The first from Northern Arizona University in Educational Leadership and the second from Arizona State University in Physical Education. I have spent my entire teaching career in the Chandler Unified School District. I started my career in 1995 at Frye Elementary teaching physical education and reading. I then had the wonderful opportunity to serve two years as the Dean of Students at Sanborn and Tarwater Elementary. Before coming to Casteel in the fall of 2015 I spent 12 years teaching and coaching at Chandler High.

My Educational Philosophy

First, I believe all students can learn! It is my goal to help each student realize their full potential in and outside the classroom. It is my responsibility to bring a great deal of energy to my class. If I don't get excited about my subject, why should my students? Lastly, it is my desire to create an environment where students feel safe and that their opinion is valued.

Welcome to Casteel! I am excited to meet all of you. This year will be filled with WOW s and all kinds of hands on labs. I have three daughters and they are amazing. I love ALL kinds of sports and have had the pleasure to coach soccer, track, tennis, and volleyball. My goal this year is to make science an adventure and each one of my students SCIENCE as their favorite subject.

My Education and Professional Background

I have been teaching for over 17 years. I hold a National Board Certificate in Science. I graduated from Lewis and Clack College in Oregon and received my Masters from Antioch University.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe each and every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to my classroom and the world around them. I strive to create an environment that is safe, supports students, and invites a sharing of ideas. My vision of a successful classroom is where people learn to respect, accept, and embrace the differences between us. Learners vary not only in abilities, but also in learning styles. I will incorporate themes, integrated units, projects, group work, individual work, and hands-on learning in order to make children active learners. Teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of science in my students, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I am comfortable creating curriculum that utilizes recent modeling strategies and keeps students highly engaged. I believe you never stop learning and make sure I model this philosophy.

For the past, 3 years, I have been teaching Project Lead The Way and I'm excited to be teaching it again this year. Teaching is a second career for me. Prior to teaching I worked at the General Motors Desert Proving Ground. I began working in the Powertrain division, building and testing automatic transmissions. During my time at the facility, I helped to develop a training program to train the new hires in the transmission division.

My Educational Philosophy

I feel that a teacher’s role is to guide children, helping them along their academic journey. It is my belief that all students are capable of learning, although they learn at varying speeds and using different techniques. I like to use hands-on activities in my classroom and let the students collaborate in small groups to achieve their goals. I understand and think that mistakes are a normal part of learning, if students’ are not making mistakes than they are not challenging themselves.

My classroom offers students the tools and environment necessary to build critical and creative thinkers who will be successful both in and outside of the classroom.

Welcome!

Welcome! I am so thrilled to be starting the Dance Program here at Casteel, it's going to be a great year!

My Education and Professional Background

Welcome! I am so excited to be dancing with you this year! I graduated from ASU with a major in Dance Education and Sociology. Throughout college I took advantage of the numerous opportunities I was presented with to expand my craft. I performed not only with ASU but also in outside companies in the valley. I began teaching competitive and recreational dance at an early age and continue to still. I have received numerous choreography awards and create dances that place and win. Choreography is a strong passion and seeing my students bring it to life is magic. I have guest taught in several high schools and love the different dynamic that each set of students brings. It continues to amaze me how inspiring each individual is. I am currently a student at the University of North Carolina Greensboro attaining my Masters in Dance Education. I couldn't imagine my life without dance and I look forward to sharing my love!

My Educational Philosophy

As a dance educator I strive to create a positive dance atmosphere for students wherein I hope to challenge and inspire students to expand their dance vocabulary and ability. Dance is a form of expression, it’s an art, a language. In order to truly experience it one must be completely willing to open up. Creating a judgment-free space will encourage students towards healthy, personal expression and growth in movement. Through respect, understanding the significance of individuality and self worth, and a desire and willingness to not give up, students will find the empowerment dance brings and realize anything can be achieved.

Welcome!

Hello orchestra students and parents! Excitement is in the air with the start of a new school year.We are on a journey of education, creativity and leadership. Students at Auxier, Riggs and Casteel have a unique opportunity. Together you form a community that will grow and follow a trajectory of playing ability from the very beginning in grade 5 to advanced playing in grade 12. I am excited to teach and guide you as we create an amazing community of young musicians.

My Education and Professional Background

I attended Northern Arizona University and earned a BME with a dual major in orchestral and choral conducting in education. While at NAU, I studied with Gary Karr and played in numerous orchestras. For choral activities I sang in the Shrine Choir, student conducted the top Madrigal Ensemble and performed in the first cast of Black Bart’s Theater. My first job was teaching in Las Vegas. I was also the Music Director for the Guardian Angel Cathedral and Assistant Conductor of the Nevada Musical Arts Society. I attended graduate school at Claremont and earned a M.Div. and completed all coursework for the D.Min. At graduation I was awarded the coveted Wilshire Preaching Award for communication. I have been with Chandler Unified Schools since 2003 and have been afforded many wonderful opportunities, teaching at different grade levels. I have also been the guest conductor and clinician for the Arizona Elementary All State Orchestra and the Northern Arizona Jr. High All State Orchestra.

My Educational Philosophy

I have high expectations. My educational philosophy is a combination of experiences and education I have obtained over the years. My orchestra teacher instilled me the principles of good playing and musicianship. My high school choir teacher taught me to approach learning and teaching with joy, community and enthusiasm. Finally, I deeply appreciate the teaching of William Glasser and his “Choice Theory.” Some students will work extremely hard to continue on with music past high school. The majority will use music as Einstein did; to promote creative and out-of-the box thinking to help solve the problems they encounter in the world. Whichever category a student chooses, the experience of working hard to create something beautiful and beyond words will be priceless in their life memories. In short, I invite students to work hard, apply self-discipline, be good teammates, have fun and strive to make the Casteel Orchestras among the best in the state.

Welcome to Drama, Theatre Arts, and 8th Grade Social Studies! I am excited to be part of Casteel's amazing team, and I look forward to continuing a positive culture with the staff and my students. Let's make it a wonderful year!!

My Education and Professional Background

I am a graduate of Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University, where I received a degree in Secondary Education and a degree in Theatre. I completed my honors thesis on teaching Theatre at the secondary level. I am a member of the Educational Theatre Association, International Thespian Society. and Drama Teacher Academy.

My Educational Philosophy

In my classroom, I want students to be proud of what they achieve. I want my classroom to be a safe space for students to express their ideas. My students will not be afraid to fail because they have the support of their classmates and teachers along the journey. Students should be encouraged to take risks, and the results should be celebrated as a step on the path to success. In our class, we will “fail forward” with the intention of learning from any setbacks. Through the study of theatre, my students will gain skills that they will be able to use throughout their lives. By the end of our course, students will have a deeper understanding of themselves, the world, and the magic of theatre!

I received my teaching certification through Rio Salado College in 2012. I have been teaching since 2012, all at the middle school level, and I absolutely love it.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that a great classroom is one where the students are working harder than the teacher. This means that the teacher is okay with allowing her students to take risks and being responsible for making their decisions about their own learning. I also believe that kids should express enjoyment in their learning. When a kid is enjoying the material being taught, interest levels peak and actual learning occurs.

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to my webpage! I am originally from Michigan but am proud to call Arizona home. Some of my favorite things to do are spend time with friends and family, play and watch any/all sports, travel, and work out. I have a lifetime goal to be a contestant on "Wheel of Fortune.” I’m looking forward to a great year!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan with a Bachelor's degree in English and Kinesiology. I began teaching in Florida in 2010, where my district awarded me the First Year Teacher of the Year Award. I’ve been teaching in CUSD since 2011, first at Santan Junior High, and then I moved to Casteel for its inaugural year in 2015.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe every child is capable of learning, and it’s my job to provide them with a safe, supportive environment in which to do so. Encouraging students to persevere and providing them with the tools and assistance to push themselves past what they believe they’re capable of is important to me. I will help all students grow--academically, personally, and physically--throughout the year, and will instill in them the importance of becoming lifelong learners and living a healthy lifestyle.

Welcome!

Welcome to 8th grade Integrated Science! I'm so excited to kick off the new school year at Casteel High School. In my classroom, students will be engaging in hands-on activities and labs in order to learn and understand the awesome world of science. I will be teaching Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, and Health. I look forward to working with all of you as we shape and mold the culture here at Casteel High School.

My Education and Professional Background

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan where I earned an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts. I was fortunate enough to have amazing professors who taught me science while I was in college. Their approach to education ignited a passion within me that I didn't know I had. I fell in love with science and decided that I wanted to influence younger generations and hopefully ignite their passion for science as well. After moving to Arizona I completed a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with a concentration in Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe every student has potential in becoming lifelong learners who will become productive and responsible citizens of our global society. My goal is to provide a comprehensive, challenging curriculum through inquiry-based instruction and to create a healthy learning environment where students are taught to be self-aware and compassionate individuals who respect diversity in all its forms.

Welcome to Mrs. Adams English Class! I am so excited to spend the year growing with you!

My Education and Professional Background

I hold an Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts, a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, a Master of Education in Secondary Teaching and a Masters of English with a focus in Literature, Rhetoric and the Teaching of Writing from Northern Arizona University. I am a life-long learner! My ultimate goal is to earn a Doctorate in English Education or Educational leadership. I began my career in Education at the administrative level of Post-Secondary and Early Childhood Education. In 2007, I made the decision to pursue my love and the career I had always dreamed of – teaching! I am highly qualified and certified to teach Honors, Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment English Language Arts as well as CTE Business and Family and Consumer Science at the junior high, senior high and university levels. I absolutely love teaching here at Casteel.

My Educational Philosophy

My goal is to be a “Superteacher.” Superteachers are people who possess an optimistic, growth mindset, and these instructors see the maximum potential in everyone. As long as a student puts in the necessary effort, he or she can work to do well and learn material. This isn’t an act; a superteacher truly exudes confidence and encouragement because this is a way of thinking, a mindset. A superteacher knows his or her job is to cultivate learning, to be a curator of knowledge, and in order to see students grow, the teacher must believe the students can improve and develop their skills.“From the perspective of a fixed mindset, failure indicates a lack of ability, and therefore a lack of capability or intelligence. People who have a growth mindset, however, view struggle or failure as a natural part of the learning process and an opportunity to improve”

My Education and Professional Background

Prior to coming to Chandler I worked in the Alhambra district. Throughout my 13 years in education I have gained a wide variety of experiences working with a diverse population of students with a variety of educational needs. Welcome!

Welcome to Mandarin Chinese! I am pleased to be teaching Mandarin Chinese at ACP Erie and Casteel High. 欢迎!

My Education and Professional Background

I completed my undergraduate degree in Spanish Education from the University of South Carolina. My master’s is in World Languages with an emphasis in Mandarin Education from the University of Utah. In studying languages, I have had the opportunity to study abroad in China, Taiwan and Spain.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that every student can learn Mandarin Chinese. Learning how to learn and study Mandarin is an important part of the process. Learning does require effort, but can and should be enjoyable and rewarding. Learning should also be meaningful, relating to students’ experiences and interests. I find it rewarding to see student progress over the course of the year, from being unable to write any Chinese to writing entire essays in a new language!

Welcome!

Welcome to Life Connections and Careers. In this class, students will learn good habits to become a successful student, including time management, goal setting, and effective communication. They will also learn note-taking strategies, take career inventories, and create career profiles and college portfolios. Please check the links on the left for additional information about the class. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

My Education and Professional Background

After receiving my teaching certificate from ASU, I began teaching Spanish in the Kyrene School District, later trading languages and teaching adult English Language Learners, and then returning to teach Spanish part-time here at Casteel. When the opportunity came to teach LCC and return to my passion for college and career exploration, I jumped at the chance to use my background in counseling. I feel fortunate to be in the CTE Department and look forward to helping students understand their potential and help them realize their goals.

My Educational Philosophy

As a teacher, I understand that all students learn in different ways and have different strengths. I hope that my students know that they are valued and that their input is worthwhile. I expect my students to work hard and at the same time, enjoy the process of self-exploration. My hope is that they become life-long learners in the pursuit of their goals and dreams.

"A revolution is coming – a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough – but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character; we cannot alter its inevitability."

Welcome!

It is an honor to be part of the inaugural year of Camille Casteel High School. We are its charter members and we will make history together!

My Education and Professional Background

Nothing is greater than being able to serve your country and your community. I have been bestowed the honor of being a product of the Arizona Public Education System. Those same school doors of opportunity opened up to me as I stepped foot into my first classroom in the fall of 1995; twenty years ago. I am proud to serve my country as an American Educator! I obtained my first college degree in 1995 and my second college degree was achieved in 2004. I have a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. I am also a 2014 Alumni of Emerge Arizona. No classroom of higher learning can compare to the education I have received from my students during these last 20 years. This valuable educational experience has opened my eyes to what an education is really all about. They ignite my passion for Excellence in Education for ALL students.

My Educational Philosophy

My Education Philosophy is very simple and was taught to me by a great educator and mentor of mine, Maureen Migacz. She taught me to teach the way my students learn and never stay complacent. Do what is right and always put students FIRST! Excellence in Education is not an option, America depends on it! As President Kennedy once said, “And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
