My Educational Philosophy
It is my philosophy that mathematics be taught for understanding. It is important that students understand and DO real math in my class. I also believe that learning is a social and cyclical process. Research shows that students need to be able to talk about what they are learning to better process it and keep it in their long term memory. This means that in my classroom students will be encouraged and expected to talk about math. In order promote student sharing of ideas learning it is important to teach students that mistakes are not blemishes to be embarrassed of but a natural part of the learning process. Which is the final part of my philosophy that I develop and encourage a growth mindset in my classroom every day!
