"I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... We are in charge of our attitudes."

Welcome to Casteel High School Social Studies! My name is Mr. Tanner and I am thrilled to be part of Casteel High. I have been happily married to my wife Julie since 1984 and we have three grown children. Julie is a counselor at Chief Hill Academy in Chandler District. We are very proud that all three of our children are products of the Chandler Unified School District. In my spare time I like to travel, fish, golf, hike and attend ASU football games.

My Education and Professional Background

I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education from the Master's College (formerly Los Angeles Baptist College). I completed two Master's Degrees: The first from Northern Arizona University in Educational Leadership and the second from Arizona State University in Physical Education. I have spent my entire teaching career in the Chandler Unified School District. I started my career in 1995 at Frye Elementary teaching physical education and reading. I then had the wonderful opportunity to serve two years as the Dean of Students at Sanborn and Tarwater Elementary. Before coming to Casteel in the fall of 2015 I spent 12 years teaching and coaching at Chandler High.

My Educational Philosophy

First, I believe all students can learn! It is my goal to help each student realize their full potential in and outside the classroom. It is my responsibility to bring a great deal of energy to my class. If I don't get excited about my subject, why should my students? Lastly, it is my desire to create an environment where students feel safe and that their opinion is valued.
