Welcome to Mrs. MacDonald's Resource Room. We are going to have an AMAZING year at Andersen Elementary! A little something about me: I was born in Phoenix Arizona and raised in Mesa, Arizona. I'm a 4th generation Arizonan, (There's not too many of us!). My husband and I have 1 daughter (she also went to Andersen Elementary!). When I'm not at school I love to spend time with my family, travel in our 5th wheel, fish, watch ASU football, and eat southern foods on the beaches in Mississippi.

My Education and Professional Background

After many years of off and on education from M.C.C. and A.S.U., I received my bachelor's degree in Human Services, worked as a substitute in the Mesa School District and went on to pursue my Masters degree in Special Education from the University of Phoenix. After completing my Master's and receiving my teaching certificate, I was hired through CUSD to teach children with Emotional Disabilities in a self contained setting. After my first year of teaching, I went into Resource and then a self-contained program for students mild cognitive disabilities. When my program moved schools, I stayed at Andersen Elementary as a resource teacher. I have been teaching Special Education in Chandler since 2003. While in Chandler, I have earned my Structured English Immersion endorsement and I have been trained to teach Lindamood-Bell programs as well as Wilson Reading and Just Words.

As a special needs teacher, it is my privilege to work and develop student's talents and unique attributes to help them succeed with their academics, behavior, and life skills. Welcome! I am looing forward to a music filled school year!

My Education and Professional Background

DEPAUW UNIVERSITY — Greencastle, IN, Bachelor of Music Education, 2004

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that music plays an integral part of each student's education as well as their own self-expression. As a music educator, I believe that it is my responsibility to provide well prepared quality instruction to help each student realize his or her own individual potential and abilities. I also believe that every student, no matter what challenges they are faced with, can benefit from music instruction. Music itself is a unique discipline in that it can integrate many other subjects and disciplines such as science, math, and history into its curriculum, thus, providing students with a more well-rounded and holistic education. I strongly believe that music, as well as other forms of art, are necessary if we expect our students to be great thinkers and achievers. Through my education and love of music, I intend to inspire students and help them realize their great potential.

Welcome!

I'm extremely excited to begin my new journey in the Chandler Schools. I hope I experience the greatest learning adventures with the Andersen Astronauts.

My Education and Professional Background

My childhood dream came true when I became a teacher in 1999. After graduating from ASU in Elementary Education, I knew that I had become a lifelong learner. Always learning side by side with young children. I have my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, also from Arizona State University.

My Educational Philosophy

The responsibility of being a teacher is one that I do not take lightly. It is my job, within my heart and within my classroom, to ensure the social, emotional and academic growth of every student. I believe that one of my gifts is to be able to reach each child individually; I seek and enrich their strengths and assist them with their successes. We are part of a team…that is reinforced on a daily basis in my classroom. Equally important to me as an educator, is my communication and collaboration with my families. They are a vital piece of our team. Parents are welcomed into my classroom and often assist me with activities.

Welcome! I'm looking forward to working with students at Andersen Elementary.

My Education and Professional Background

I received my BS in Elementary Education from Eastern Montana College, and MS in Special Education from Montana State University-Billings. In 2011, I was honored to receive the Montana Special Education Teacher of the Year award.

My Educational Philosophy

It's interesting to me that many of our salient memories involve our grade school years. People can always remember their favorite teacher. For me, that teacher was Sr. Abby. I adored this woman for so many reasons, and to this day, I strive to emulate her teaching. My philosophy of education is based on what I learned from my 2nd grade teacher: 1) She genuinely loved us. We just "knew" it by the way she treated us. 2) She taught me that being fair meant that everyone received what they needed in order to be successful. 3) Sr. Abby had expectations for everyone and taught us to have high expectations of ourselves. 4) She was creative and engaging. I was always ready for more! Sr. Abby helped mold my teaching career and her influence carries over to the students I work with today!

My Education and Professional Background

have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Arizona University.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that all children have the right to a quality education and are capable of being taught based on their own unique needs. In order for this to happen it is imperative for there to be close collaboration between teachers, students, administrators and parents. Everyone is an essential piece of the puzzle!
