Welcome!

Hi, my name is Lorena DeCristofaro. I have been teaching at Perry since it opened, and have loved every minute of it. I love seeing what kids can do artistically, especially when they usually come to me, with a sense of having No artistic ability. The change and final projects I get are so very rewarding. Take a look at the students art work samples I have in my website. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

My Education and Professional Background

I received my HS from a very small prestigious private High School in Guadalajara Mexico. My BA is in graphic design from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. My Masters degree is in International Education from Framingham State college. I have taught since the school year 1991-1992 . I started teaching kindergarten, 2nd grade to non English speakers, I have taught HS Spanish and have taught HS art for the last 11 years straight. I am very happy doing what I do.

My Educational Philosophy

I am a strong believer that even if you don't have natural artistic ability I can teach you art skills and techniques that will make your art work look like you were born with talent.!

My Education and Professional Background

I am a product of the Chandler District. I went to Weinberg Elementary, Bogle Junior High and I am a proud graduate from Chandler High School. WOLF PACK ATTACK! I then attended CGCC, graduated with my AA and AGS, transfered to ASU where I earned my Bachelors in Secondary Education with a specialization in Spanish. My Educational Philosophy

I believe each and every student is capable of so much when they put their mind to it. Students can accomplish and gain so much knowlege and experience when they put forth their best effort. Every child can learn how to work at their optimum level.

Welcome!

Bienvenidos/Welcome to Señor Diaz Spanish class 2020-2021 school year. I am from Venezuela and Spanish is my first language. I want to bring the Spanish Language to Perry High School on four important subjects Vocabulary, Grammar, Culture, and Communication. In addition, I will bring a different tool on how to learn another language that will prepare students for the future career or open other doors on how to learn other languages than Spanish and English.

My Education and Professional Background

I have a Bilingual Education and Spanish degree from University of Arizona.·Certified in Spanish High School Subject.·For six years, I have taught Spanish classes in the college level at University of Arizona. I have been teaching Spanish in High School for 4 years·This is my second year at Perry High School.

My Educational Philosophy

Mr. Diaz likes to see the most effort from the students to try to learn another language. I believe it is my job to teach foreign language in a way that is meaningful to the students everyday world. I want to make my students aware that language is a key to unlock other cultures. Understanding another culture broadens perspectives, opens up minds, and empowers students to succeed and take part as responsible citizens in the world. I also believe that every student learns differently, therefore, differentiating the material is essential in every lesson. Learning through movement, art, music, and visuals helps all students have a chance to grasp concepts they might not understand through lecture/note methods of teaching. I believe that laughter and games are a natural part of a foreign language classroom because, as they learn things that most of them have never been exposed.

My Education and Professional Background

Bachelors degree in Psychology, Chapman University. Masters degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Chapman University. Masters degree in Music Education, Arizona State University. Doctorate degree in Music Education, Arizona State University.

My Educational Philosophy

It is my belief that all students can learn to play a string instrument. It takes good direction, lots of practice and hard work, but the end result of beautiful music is worth all the effort. Music can become part of your identity; who you are; someone who creates. Learning and performing many genres of music opens your mind and heart to many cultures and peoples who value those genres. Our goal is to uplift everyone with the gift of music.

Welcome!

Welcome to Perry High School and Investigative Science. This year you will get chances to explore the world around you in a very exciting and meaningful way. This inquiry-based course is designed to investigate chemistry, physics, biology, and earth-space concepts in order to develop your analytical skills and problem-solving techniques. Concepts explored in the course develop foundational knowledge that ensures success in subsequent high school science classes.

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated with a BS in Biology in 1994 and then went on to graduate with distinction in 1998 with a Masters in Curriculum Development from ASU's TEAMS (Teaching Excellence in Math and Science) program. My graduate program had the goal of bringing scientists into the classroom. In 2009 I received a Master's of Education in Educational Leadership. I have been teaching science to students from 7th-12th grade for 17 years.

My Educational Philosophy

Science has always been a subject that excites and intrigues me. From the outer reaches of the cosmos, to the microcosm of the cell or the atom, the grace with which a bird can propel itself through air, the apparent balance found within and among living things, the miracles of modern technology - The natural world is full of beauty, patterns, and mystery waiting to be discovered. It is only natural to be curious and ask the questions why and how and to want to understand the universe. My main goal is to get my students to think critically, scientifically, and creatively in order to solve problems and answer questions about the world. I challenge my students to come to appreciate and understand things which sometimes we take for granted. I hope to pass on my excitement and incite the natural curiosity in my students.

AP US History is a demanding class, but can also be very rewarding. Students enrolled in this course are expected to do a considerable amount of reading from both the major text and from supplementary sources. This reading will be done outside of class, and class time will be spent in applying the outside reading to the content and themes of this course. We will do this in a variety of ways, including analysis of Primary and Secondary sources, class discussions, writing, and other activities.

My Education and Professional Background

I have a degree in Communications from Eastern New Mexico University (go Greyhounds!) and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Arizona University. I have been fortunate to teach in the Chandler District for the last thirteen years. I have taught 7th grade US History, 8th Grade Government/Economics, and 8th grade US History at Willis Junior High.

My Educational Philosophy

My favorite challenge in teaching is trying to figure out how to incorporate different disciplines into my teaching. I enjoy working with other teachers to integrate Science, Math and Reading into the Social Studies lessons that I teach. I find it rewarding when those ideas actually work.

I am very blessed to have a beautiful wife and three great kids.

Joining the music faculty at Perry the same year as the Associate Director of Bands, Benjamin now directs the Concert Band, leads the Guitar Program, co-directs the Puma Regiment, co-directs the Winter Season Ensembles, and is an instructor for Film Studies. Benjamin has performed with the Salt River Brass, Sonic Brass, the Arizona State Sun Devil Marching Band, various churches throughout the valley, and local musical theatre productions.

My Educational Philosophy

“We imagine a world in which the vast majority of people wake up every day inspired, feel safe wherever they are and end the day fulfilled by the work they do.” – Simon Sinek. Benjamin believes that the education of our youth is a cornerstone for our future and works to create an environment where students can develop emotionally, intellectually, and socially to their natural best. Through their time spent here it is his hope that students develop a sense of individuality, a passion for something they value, respect for their fellow humans, and the determination to stretch themselves to achieve what they are capable of.

I believe that reading and writing are the foundational skills that allow students to become a productive member of society in an ever-changing world. As an English teacher, it is my job to give students the skills and tools necessary to communicate effectively in a variety of educational and social settings. I believe that it is not just my job to get students to look at a text or a piece of writing in a certain way, but instead, it is to get them to consider the multiple perspectives needed to approach the work. Only then will students be able to think critically and communicate effectively.

Welcome to the wellness room! The wellness room was started to provide mental health support to students in a school setting. We have created a safe place where all students are welcome. It can be particularly helpful for those struggling with stress, anxiety and any other mental, social, or emotional needs.

My Education and Professional Background

Hello, my name is Mrs. Taylor. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with a Master’s in Social Work degree (MSW) from Metropolitan State University of Denver. I started out my career in child welfare. I then went on to graduate school where I entered the the school social work profession working at a middle school in Colorado. In 2016, I relocated to Phoenix and went to work for an adoption agency where I case managed birth moms, implemented and ran the agencies volunteer program and helped with the start-up of an after-care program that aimed to provide additional support to birth moms. I then decided I wanted to get back in to school social work, so I came to Perry last year in 2019.

My Educational Philosophy

I am thrilled to see the push for mental health support in our schools. I am excited to be working in the wellness room, supporting the social, emotional, and mental health needs of our students, and helping to create a safe place for all students to come. I am passionate about mental health and preventative services to assist adolescents in navigating a very important and sometimes challenging time in their lives. I want to empower students to seek help when needed, to feel supported, to give them the coping skills they need to be successful both in and out of school, and to make sure they know that they MATTER! Welcome to 9th grade English!

My Education and Professional Background

I graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. in English Education. I then taught at Mohave Middle School in Scottsdale, teaching AVID and 8th grade Language Arts. Although I loved the squirrely middle school age, I decided to move on up to high school. This is my second year at Perry High School and I am happy to be here!

My Educational Philosophy

I'd like to think of myself as a facilitator, rather than a source of all knowledge. I encourage my students to learn how to think for themselves, as real knowledge is knowing where to find the answers. Therefore, my teaching style will include modeling the standard/skills being taught, the use of higher level thinking questions, and plenty of collaboration and group work. My ultimate goal is for my students to become independent learners. I also place particular importance on respect in my classroom. Just to reiterate our fabulous district's goal, kindness is always expected. Our words should be selected carefully knowing how impactful they are. Differences are valued and embraced, and team work leads to excellence. This will make the classroom environment safe and comfortable, one that will enable learning and growth.

Welcome to the Fine Arts webpage!

My Education and Professional Background

I received a BA in Studio Art and Art Education from Rosemont College located outside Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. I've also studied Studio Art and Art History at The American University of Paris and Parsons School of Design Paris. I began my career working as an Art Cataloger at Princeton University, then went into teaching at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels in New Jersey before moving to Arizona, where I taught 7-12 Art in the east valley. I've been at Perry since 2017. This is my 16th year teaching Visual and Fine Arts.

My Educational Philosophy

It is my goal as an art teacher to teach students about the many aspects of what art truly is. Art is not only the production of a work, it is understanding why we feel the need to make it, why others before us needed to create it, what techniques we used to construct it, and why it pleases our eyes after we have finished it. Students should be able to practice art in the following ways: production, fundamentals, aesthetics, critiquing, observing & studying cultures and the history of art. I believe every student has the ability to be creative, and I will you help foster that creativity. Even if you don't think you are artistic, you will be amazed at what you can learn, develop and create throughout the course of this class.
