Welcome to fourth grade at KGA!I’m looking forward to an exciting year together filled with creativity, risk taking, exploration, and achievement. This will be my fourth year as a part of the fantastic fourth grade KGA team. A few years ago I moved from Orange County, California with my husband Darryl, where I previously taught at a recognized California Distinguished elementary school.

My Education and Professional Background

This is my 10th year as a professional educator. Throughout my career I’ve taught in grades 2 through 5 and 8th grade science. I earned both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as well as a post-baccalaureate, K-8 teaching credential, from California State University San Marcos in San Diego. I am currently working towards the completion of my gifted certification for the state of Arizona.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe in a student-centered environment, where each child is valued, has a voice and choice, and both learning and teaching is adapted to a student’s individual need. Students are directly involved and invested in the discovery of their own knowledge. Through collaboration and cooperation with others, students engage in experiential learning that is authentic, holistic, challenging, and inspires creation. Using researched-based instructional strategies as well as real-world applications, students are empowered to take risks in order to reach their maximum potential. I am committed to student achievement and delivering both lessons and experiences rich with depth and complexity. Working as a team of four, we are building a global community that allows collaboration amongst both teachers and students that fosters lifelong learners and encourages academic excellence.
