"Anything worth doing, is worth doing right. Libraries allow children to ask questions about the world and find the answers. And the wonderful thing is that once a child learns to use a library, the doors to learning are always open."
-- Hunter S Thompson & Laura Bush

Welcome to the Shumway Library! I am extremely excited to combine my passions for teaching and my love of books with the students at Shumway. I pride myself in finding the right book for every student, regardless of their reading level or interests. I am excited to start my 4th year at Shumway Leadership Academy. Let the READING begin!!

My Education and Professional Background

I received my AA in Early Childhood Education from Mira Costa Community College in California. After teaching preschool for 2 years, I obtained my BA in Liberal Studies (teaching emphasis) from San Diego State University and my Elementary Teaching Credential from California State University, San Marcos. I have earned a Reading Specialist, Media Specialist & Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsements. I have experience teaching Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade and 5th grade. I love teaching kids of all ages and the Library is a perfect fit for me!

My Educational Philosophy

I believe every child is unique, loveable and capable of success! I believe a library should be a warm and welcoming environment and a place where students love to visit. I consider the Shumway Library to be the HUB of our school. I hope to inspire and encourage my kids through diligence and warmth. My ultimate goal for students is to realize that Library has a wealth of information and show students to be able to find that information independently.
