Welcome to Mr. Durham's webpage! Please take a moment to learn a little more about me, my background, and my view on education.
My Education and Professional Background
Originally from upstate New York, I moved to Arizona in 2005 and enrolled at Arizona State University, where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education in 2008. I then received my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership in 2011 from Northern Arizona University. My career in education began in 2008 as a Physical Education teacher in the Kyrene School District and then 5 years in CUSD. Then in 2016 I accepted an administrative role as the Dean of Students at Santan Elementary. As for this year, I am very excited to be splitting time between Jacobson and Santan Elementary as their Dean of Students. I look forward to working with all of the teachers, students, and parents in continuing and building upon the success of both schools.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that every student is capable of learning and with the correct motivation and support they will be successful. In my opinion, it is vital that teacher instruction be geared toward each individual student, since every student learns in a different manner; the teacher must develop a relationship with each student and understand what their interests, abilities, and preferred learning styles are to meet their academic, social, and emotional needs. It is imperative to create an environment where students feel valued, are able to explore their passions, be able to express themselves, and are driven to be successful. My mission as the Dean of Students is to help maintain a positive learning environment with set high standards on learning, performance, and citizenship. I will do this by integrating new programs, working with staff members on new strategies that are best suited for their classrooms and students, and by supporting the teachers here to the best of my ability.
